i really enjoy gambit as it is right now but the problem is there just isnt much of a reason to play it, ya know content wise. but the new changes look nice
Gambit doesn’t need a huge revamp. Truly, it needs more maps and more “equality” as far as how powerful the adds are. An example being Fallen on Emerald Coast v. Hive on Deep Six. A 2 man team of mediocre skill could clear all 3 areas of the EC while you’re gonna need a competent team to clear hive from the burrows (2 shriekers, 2 op wizards, knights, thrall, hvt). That will make causal players avoid gambit if they run Deep Six like that after not playing it for a while.
Clipping needs fixed. Motes falling through the map has been an issue since Gambit began. Being killed by enemies while there is an invader shouldn’t re-health the boss. Animations need better sync (many times a player will bank and be moving away then get killed by an invader after the animation completes and lose motes). Sure, that could be lag, but a lag that prolonged shouldn’t exist.
Gambit Prime honestly sucked. It was an awful time of hunting wizards to get invaded on and killed over and over, since the team had to stand together for dps. Three round gambit matches were better and gave each team a more level playing field to change tactics and not get demolished by the first invasion.
As a change, they could introduce a “legendary” mode that has weapon rotations weekly like the year 1-2 raids did. Not enough people main gambit to have a freelance v. fireteam only mode.
As it stands, Gambit is the most lucrative game mode for time spent right now. 5-7 minutes on average will net you 1-5 pieces of gear, potential for shards/cores/upgrade modules, glimmer and a strange coin. You can also complete select planetary bounties, weapon bounties, a couple strike bounties, several seasonal bounties…. Sure it doesn’t give you endgame level loot, but the resources it does provide for time spent outweigh other activities.
I like it, but I hate the catchup mechanics, such as when your team is winning, and your enemies seem stronger, or the other team gets enemies to drop more motes, or when your team pulls primeval and allows losing team to keep invading.
More maps would be great, maybe even change the numbers of players per team, like 3, 5 or 6 per team, just to mix it up.
There's literally nothing they could do to make that kind of gamemode interesting to me and many of the people I know.
Pvpers in my pve? Gross.
Pve competition? Gross.
Random matchmade competition? Gross.
Motes? Gross.
Drifter? Gross.
I'm happy that people who do like the gamemode will be supposedly seeing some improvements, but I hate that the devs are wasting time with it in general. The majority of the Destiny Year in Review posts I've seen, have less than 4% engagement with Gambit. Obviously that's a small sample size, but it's telling nonetheless.
It is and always has been a means to and end for me. Leveling and specific rewards. I do not, nor have I ever played it for fun. Any PvP related thing in this game has never felt balanced or well made to me.
The ONLY way to get me to go back into Gambit is they bring back Spam Rations or JadeSstone.
Then I’ll go back. Other than that I’m avoiding it like the plague.
Let's face it, most people hate gambit because of invaders and invading. So let's remove it and replace invaders with hive guardians.
They could spawn in at certain mote bank intervals. If ignored, they can remain on the map for the whole game and stack up to 3 of them at once. If they reach the bank they can steal motes, but they don't go to the other team.
Lore wise this would make sense since drifter does a lot of experiments with light and dark, so it would make sense Savathun would take an interest in his work and why she would steal motes of dark.
Gambit could be great if people weren’t stupid
Don’t deposit 3 motes
Don’t take 2 motes when you have 0 and someone needs 1/2 for a blocker
Deposit at the same time
Deposit when drifter says you have enough, don’t go collecting for a blocker
But other than stupid players (and that’s basically everyone I’ve ever played with) the games not bad. Could use some new blood but overall can be fun
