It’s annoying but I can see where Bungie is coming from. If scouts do the same DPS as other primaries but have more range, and most PvE encounters have large spaces… why would you use anything other than a scout? There’s a reason why Anti-Barrier scout is people’s preferred anti-barrier primary. Range is a big factor. When’s the last time you seriously took a sidearm into Master+ level content? Or an SMG? Probably only when you had no other choice for champion mods. Scouts feel fine, handcannons feel fine, Bows feel amazing. Autos feel even worse as it Takes even longer than a Scout’s single follow up shot to kill. Pulses do laughable damage as soon as the enemy is higher light level. And Sidearms and SMGs have good damage but don’t have enough to keep up with endgame content and their range issues. Scouts are in a good spot. I highly recommend getting a Trustee or a good eternal blazon. Also Polaris Lance and Symmetry are both fun and great for endgame stuff.

  • I think that there’s a fundamental problem with GMs where weapons have to be balanced around that content which plays nothing like the rest of the game. I wish they’d go back to how difficulty was handled in the first game with the crazy enemy spawns instead of just higher level enemies. SMGs feel too powerful in most content, but useless in GMs. This shouldn’t be an issue. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy GMs, even if I’m not as hardcore as some players, but I think the system could have been done better.

  • This. It’s the same with Sidearms. Straight up power increases for enemies makes it really hard to justify using more close range and aggressive weapons. That’s why SMG’s, Sidearms, Shotguns, and Swords (most of the time) never see use in them. Going back to the enemy density days would be nice though. Machineguns might actually have a use then.

    Scouts are absolutely not in a good spot. They have range but that’s it, in terms of damage they are lacking and after bows got buffed there’s no real reason to use a scout anymore. The more range = less damage ideology needs to be thrown out of a window. A gun shouldn’t suffer just because it’s preferable in cover shooter high end content. Know how you balance ranged weapons? Increase zoom levels, decrease handling, less body shot damage in exchange for higher precision damage. Basically make them hard to use at close ranges so that using something like a sidearm or smg is more preferable even if they don’t match the range. The bad part is that scouts already have all of these attributes, but still lack in damage. Why would you use anything other than a scout you ask? I don’t know, ask the 3 people who still use scout rifles in pve if you can find them, because currently most of the playerbase is using literally anything else.

  • I still stubbornly cling to scout rifles. Just hope that, at some point, all weapons can be effective their respective roles. I think the current number of options when it comes to weapons is a little watered down.

  • Bows are the reason scouts will never be amazing. Because if scouts were amazing no one would use bows other than the exotic ones.
