This change could actively be for the better of weapon crafting.
I definitely think its meant to make weapons a more important and integral part of the whole build crafting experience. Plus stuff like targeting would probably be better off being more weapon centric than on the helmet. That may or may not happen but it would probably be a good change for a lot of different reasons. Opening up the weapons in terms of memory might help with the move away from people using abilities and supers for every single thing under the sun. It seems like whatever happens the weapons are going to be more interesting in terms of what can be done with them so overall it will probably be a good thing. Its really strange that masterworking and orbs took up so much memory. But what's even more strange is that most of the complaints leave that part of what they've said so far out.

It’s just sunsetting go slow 2.0. The game has been far bigger in the past but all of a sudden weapon producing orbs are a problem? Seriously think about it. They have already nerfed most of the supers with long timers, exotics that produced orbs or super energy, enemy kill orbs and now guns. Mods of light were the next thing to get nerfed after they already hammered warmind mods…

One of the things people forget about the fact that the game has been out for a long time is that when things change some of the changes have to happen in stages. Its not like the plan was to just do what they've done so far and leave it like this forever. Plus I'm pretty sure they've said multiple times that most of the stuff around supers and what people call the "go slow update" for some odd reason is to get the game ready for what comes in WQ.

The “ go slow update” was Destiny 2’s original design at its release and because the player backlash was so negative Bungie was forced into adding back in elements they had removed. Now its seems it’s reverting back to their original “design” of Go slow 2.0.
