Looked amazing on the Challenge of Elders weapons and loved how you could coordinate the colors on certain armor to match your glows on exotics.

2 通の返信This is my speculation, not sure if anyone has said it yet as I have not looked but, chroma was most likely an early version of weapon shaders.

1 返信I’m genuinely surprised because Bungie usually never passes an opportunity to monetize something, and Chroma would probably sell pretty well.

4 通の返信The issue is that it’s more specific than shaders, while shaders have been proven to do the job well already. In D1 it worked because you couldn’t shade weapons and armor usually couldn’t take shaders in crazy ways. D2’s shaders are so beyond what we had during that era, to the point that chroma really wouldn’t be worth the dev time. Odds are not a ton of people would pay for it because there are enough shaders to love. Think about shaders like jacarina or some of the gambit ones. They apply neon colors to parts of weapons, and that’s basically all chroma was. Except chroma was on specific weapons that were designed to take that color system. We have a similar system with trials weapons taking the color of the trials emblem you have equipped, and while it’s cool and some people take advantage, it’s really just a novelty feature. Chroma would go the same way. Either it would be purely silver, which means most wouldn’t engage with it, or it could be earned in game, and you’d have so much of it you’d stop caring, like what happened in D1.

3 通の返信chroma was their ornament experiment, i think generally theres no need to layer on another system like this and rather that they improve previous systems, like custom shaders perhaps.
