I started focusing on using cover and being more aware of my radar.
I also try to avoid bad engagements and break away from engagements that start off unfavorably.

Same. My K/D is much better than it used to be, but my kill numbers are far less than a lot of good players. But, then again, I don't crutch out on one weapon and don't follow the "meta" much. But, this whole thread kinda feels like a weird flex session.

And that's the way you should play. People keep dying because they are getting themselves into fights they cannot win. If you miss the first shot while the enemy crits you there is no reason to stay in the fight.
