Maybe not how Fiction portrays it but maybe some other way?
I just find time travel so fascinating! I love it

3 通の返信Ok another reason why it wouldn’t work: it would break the law of conservation of mass. The law of conservation of mass states that matter cannot be created or destroyed. If you were to go back in time, you would technically “destroy” the mass that is you an the machine because it simply disappeared from the present. Going even further, when you arrive in the past, you would technically be creating matter as you just randomly appeared.

1 返信God I hope not. Do you know how -blam!- the timeline could end up being if even one horrifically stupid person went back in time to do whatever the -blam!-?

1 返信I don’t know about that but my grandad used to paint tower clockfaces as a profession.
he died at 6.30
1 返信SparkleGuyにより編集済み: 12/2/2021 6:53:19 PMI’m not sure time exists This sounds like a joke, but it isn’t You might think that time exists, as there is past, present, and future; but aren’t those man-made terms made to make better sense of the world? Even minutes and hours are man-made: they are based off of the Earth revolving around our star. It doesn’t have any actual meaning, just something humans made to make life easier and make better sense of the world. Something to think about. Don’t get me wrong though, some of my favorite stories (like Steins;Gate and Doctor Who) are based on time travel. I just don’t think it’s possible in the slightest, due to time possibly not existing. Not to mention particles moving across said “time”.

Time travel would probably more or less be parallel dimension type of travel. Rather than traveling in your own time. If it was realistically considered in this "reality" The help of quantum computers will allow us to reach the possibility alot faster than before having them lol Alot of really cool things are sure to happen within the lifetime of some boomers millennials and gen zs time frame of living (especially gen zs)

3 通の返信Forwards, yes it's theoretically possible if you go fast enough. Backwards time travel is likely impossible though.

1 返信I dont think so. I guess kinda? Im of the mind that once you do go back in time, you have now created a new reality.

5 通の返信I hope so. Lots of people I'd like to unmeet (well specifically two women) so long as it doesn't change other experiences and connections I've made.

Faiにより編集済み: 12/1/2021 3:59:05 AMThanks to a Covid version of that time traveler meme, whenever somebody talks about time travel, my mind goes to how explorers/conquerors from various nations ending up killing more native folk by bringing diseases that the natives had no immunity to, rather than by their sword. I’m not sure if it would work like this.. but if time travel became possible, and somebody traveled back a hundred years or more, it’s possible that they could bring mutated diseases that may be harmless to the traveler.. but could hospitalize people or lead to accidental mass genocide because the people have no resistance. So if you were to go into the future as well, you could possibly capture a nasty disease yourself. And bring it back to equally vulnerable people. So not even considering that butterfly effect thing or all those other cool theories I know nothing about, time travel could automatically be problematic- solely as a major health concern. So I guess if people ever go a few hundred years forwards or backwards, wear a hazmat suit or something. And wash yourself down really good.

3 通の返信i don’t think so as much as i’d love to visit the past, i don’t think there’s any possible way for us to. once a moment has passed it’s gone forever. plus, i don’t necessarily believe that the flow of time is linear. and EVEN IF we found a way to, you’d have to ask yourself, would it be a good idea to? do you really think it would be appropriate for us to mess with the timeline? i can only imagine how long it would take for someone to screw things up…

TheArtistにより編集済み: 11/30/2021 5:38:54 PM
Maybe not how Fiction portrays it but maybe some other way?
Yes...and no. If we ever develop the ability to travel faster-than-light (The "warp drive" from Star Trek is actually based on principles that don't violate the laws of physics), then we will also develop a form of time travel. IOW, if I go from Earth to Alpha Centauri in less than 4 years (distance of 4 light-years), then I have essentially gone BACKWARDS in time during the journey. Because I arrive faster than the light that left from Earth at the same time I did.
Actually the game Outriders leverages this aspect of Relativity in its plot. A ship that left Earth after the ship that the heroes are on, actually arrives BEFORE they do. Because that second ship travelled faster and got there years before the first ship. So the second crew (unbeknownst to the first) committed all sorts of atrocities, and screwed things up for the first before they even arrived.
I don't think we will ever be able to go backward in Time like is so common in fiction. But I think we **may** be able to alter the flow of time either through travel at significant fractions of the speed of Light (Time Dilation)....or by "warping" the fabric of Space-Time and thus allowing us to get from Point A to Point B faster-than-light.

Centaur-1により編集済み: 12/3/2021 3:01:37 PMI hope not. We’ve done enough damage, unless…
we find the first form of human… and…
One thing to think about is that there are a hundred different ways this could work. There’s the butterfly effect, where anything we do in the past affects the future. I think it’s possible that everything we do is predetermined and that any attempt we make to change it was always going to happen. And then there’s the simple answer: it’s literally beyond our comprehension or understanding. And there’s a whole other thing to think about. Instead of actually moving through time, what if we make time move around us? Rewind time, fast-forward it, freeze it, etc. Or, as someone else pointed out, maybe there is no such thing as a “the past” or “the future.” Maybe the present is all there is.

1 返信The only possibility I see is if you were cryogenically flash-freezed. After a certain amount of time mankind would understand how to Cryogenically freeze and unfreeze people, of which after you would be unfrozen in a flash and instantly rescucitated. In my above theory, you travel into the future by being cryogenically frozen in a stasis state, much like suspended animation, perfectly preserved. It would be odd, to travel into the future while being a human from a previous era in time, thusly cheating death and proving that mankind can do the impossible, using wisdom of the past eras of which you know, to build a better future for future man. For all time, always...
these are my thoughts on preservation and possible immortality, maybe...
3 通の返信Depends what you mean by time travel. I don’t think it will ever be possible to go ‘backwards’ in time, but like cryogenic freezing or some kind of FTL travelling from place to place to ‘shorten’ the time it takes to get to another time I can definitely see being a thing

3 通の返信pValue2010により編集済み: 11/30/2021 4:26:06 PMYou can time travel on minuscule levels by changing your altitude. Time moves faster at the top of a mountain. https://bigthink.com/hard-science/time-perception/
