5’s campaign wasn’t great, but I don’t think it’s as horrible as everyone makes it out to be.
Like yes, the Warden & team mechanics were annoying, and yes, bringing Cortana back was dumb, but I did like Locke, the revamped Promethean weapons were fun, and I remember the level design (not counting Warden) to be well enough.
From what I heard there’s no more Prometheans in Infinite, right? I think that’s a shame. I liked them, snd their guns were some of my favorites.

I didn't to much care for them not going to lie. For me the story is the bread and butter of the campaign. Don't advertise chief vs Locke, and give us a 45 sec cut seen. That's real activisionish of them.

Most people didn't, I don't think. I liked them, though. Their weapons added some fun variety into the pool, and I dig their aesthetic. I'll agree with you on the misleading advertising. The trailers built up the story to be way cooler than it was. I think they wanted to save the Cortana revival as a surprise, though. Kinda like what Bloodborne and NieR: Automata did with their advertising. When done properly, it can be quite clever. Honestly, the reason Halo 5 isn't great is because 343 wasn't willing to stick to its guns. Reviving Cortana in the first place was almost certainly because the more whiny fans threw a fit about her dying, and fearing a similar backlash is probably the only reason we play as Chief at all. The story would have worked much better if we didn't get Chief's perspective, and it was exclusively from Locke's; i.e. we don't know why Chief went rogue, and the game starts exclusively with us playing as Locke hunting him down to find out. Since we had Chief's side, too, it got revealed way too early what he was trying to do, which turned the marketing from a clever sleight of hand, to that cheap, misleading feeling. Though, honestly, if 343 was more confident in its decisions, the story probably would've been different anyway, because I doubt Cortana would've been revived at all. And, on that note, I'm seeing the same thing in Infinite. Now the Prometheans are gone, and the Flood are back. Why? Because that's what the fans asked for. But, the thing is, fanfics get a bad rep for a reason. Listening to the fans as hard as they have has just lead to a drop in quality storytelling wise. Most people agree, after all, that 4 was actually pretty decent as far as the story went, it was only after that, when they tried to appease the fans any way they could, that things got rubbish. Of course, that's all just speculation. They could have been planning on bringing Cortana back from the start, and maybe they always wanted the 2-perspective storytelling like Halo 2. It just feels like it was just all "in service to the fans".

Love your take on all of this and you make a lot of good points. Cortana shouldn't have been in Halo 5 at all. After watching the first 4 mission I do think she has a place in Halo Infinite. I'm hoping the can pull through for this one man.

Yeah, they can't just dump Cortana, now. They've made a good few questionable story decisions with 5, but I don't think they're bad enough at storytelling to just drop the new villain they set up. :p I'm really hoping it's good, too. I'm not a big shooty shooty pew pew player, but I have enjoyed my playtime through all the Halo games. I'm hoping the latest one is good, too!
