I've tried, and it will not work. This is what I receive in response:

The error code: ErrorCannotAuthorize
I have updated all the information on the Avocobster account that I can, and am still receiving this.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, and another route, and neither worked. When I tried logging into bungie.net as Avocobster, it asks me if I'm ColorGrain40, which is a new (as of today) gamertag that automatically got assigned when I tried to attach Avocobster to an email address. When I tried logging in as the Xbox account that I have gamepass on and I actually use and linking to my PS account, which is TheDudeSayeth, it gives me the below error:
The error code: ErrorOneAccountActiveOnIndirectUnlinkExistingCredential
Are you able to log in to Avocobster on the xbox.com website? What you're describing about ColorGrain40 sounds like you are trying to log in to bungie.net with credentials that belong to a different XBox account than the Avocobster account.
-
If you're entering a username that is the email address then it would indicate the email address you're using is tied to ColoringGrain40 and the Avocobster account has a different email address attached to it. You're probably going to have to contact Microsoft support about recovering the log in for the Avocobster account.

I got in touch with MS and they were able to help. For some reason the Avocobster account was still attached to a 3rd email, different from the one I told xbox.com to assign to it yesterday. I've now successfully deactivated cross-save. Thanks for the suggestions.

I can try Xbox, but Microsoft support is notoriously terrible. Is there not a way to have Bungie just disable all cross-save for my account so I can re-do it when the waiting period resets? There must be some way to do this in the back end.

For security reasons Bungie does not enable/disable cross save and will not link or unlink accounts on behalf of players. Again, it seems to me that you've lost the log in details to Avocobster and the log in you're trying to use belongs to an entirely different XBox account. You can't link another XBox account while one already exists on your profile.
