Wolftone Draw
i like bows... BUT.. the >wolftone< moniker is a bad choice..
The Wolfe Tones are/were an Irish Republican band who promote & idolise the IRA (terrorists who killed over 1600 ppl, mostly civilians) during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. i was born in Belfast in 73 & later in life found that my Dad was on an IRA kill list due to his job.
to see this name used for a weapon in a video game is not enjoyable. it brings up.. memories i'd rather not think about. i believe (i hope) that this was simply an unfortunate coincidence. still, it's an off putting name to see in a video game about space magic & aliens.
i would hope Bungie would maybe do a little research before naming gear & consider the ramifications of such choices.
gettin a weapon drop with the name of band who glorified a group that intended to murder my father IS a little upsetting. i wish it wasn't, but it is.

I completely agree. They should also change the name of Ace Of Spades in recognition of everyone who has a gambling addiction. Also Sleeper Simulant for anyone living in a coma, and maybe change the name of Gnawing Hunger as it could be deemed offensive to anyone in a third world country who struggle with famine. 2 通の返信unfortunate yes but it really is impossible to name anything other than bow 1, bow 2, bow 3, etc without offending or causing pain or whatever to someone. heck, you could have a bow called 'hello kitty' and someone would be offended.

5 通の返信When is someone gonna tell him what Izanami is backwards lol....... Sorry bud this is reaching super hard. The fact that something so benign makes you feel so bad.

1 返信While I get where you are coming from, Bungie really can’t do much digging into what they name guns. These days, any work can be taken as offensive or have a double meaning.

2 通の返信Inclement Karmaにより編集済み: 9/14/2021 4:50:21 PMI heard some evil people once banded together and their name started with “The.” Clearly, definite articles should be banned in all communications, lest someone be offended or evil causes gain publicity.

5 通の返信
i would hope Bungie would maybe do a little research before naming gear & consider the ramifications of such choices.
1. That band didn't invent the phrase "wolf tone". 2. Bungie is an American company. Nobody here has heard of nor cares about that band. 3. Nobody should have to do deep dive research on the off chance it might hurt someone's feelings, especially when you're offended at something that's three degrees removed from the actual offense.

1 返信It is most likely named from this:
Wolf tones are usually only noticed on bowed instruments, most notably the violin family, since the tones produced are played for much longer periods, and thus are easier to hear. Frequently, the wolf is present on or in between the pitches E and F♯ on the cello, and around G♯ on the double bass.[3][4] A wolf can be reduced or eliminated with a piece of equipment called a wolf tone eliminator. This is a metal tube and mounting screw with an interior rubber sleeve, that fits around the offending string below the bridge. Different placements of this tube along the string influence or eliminate the frequency at which the wolf occurs. It is essentially an attenuator that slightly shifts the natural frequency of the string (and/or instrument body) cutting down on the reverberation.[1]
(source) The different spellings of the two indicate the difference in meanings. While your concern is understandable due to the phonetic similarities of the words, it should be clear that Bungie was not going for the band version of the term.

1 返信I have a feeling that referencing the band or any references to the Troubles at all were completely unintentional. I am sorry for your experiences during that time period, though. I did some research on the Troubles out of curiosity and it was, needless to say, one of many dark chapters in the UK's long history. I would say that this would be, for me as an African-American male, the equivalent of finding a pulse rifle named Stormfront in the game.

It is produced when the pitch of the played note is close to a natural resonant frequency of the body of the musical instrument.
-Wikipedia

4 通の返信I hear ya, and I'm sorry the game evokes those painful memories for you. If only naming stuff wasnt such a minefield, most folks would have just seen that as another innocuous name...
