Someone commented that we shouldn’t surrender names and symbols to hate groups, and I agree with that.
I’m really not sure why I got soooo much hate for this post though...
I didn’t attack anyone, I didn’t say that those who support calling it a clan are racist, I simply offered up my two cents.

2 通の返信
Kingjulionmort Here’s the thing though. In the U.S., when people hear clan, the first thought isn’t, oh, a Scottish family
Clans aren’t just Scottish - they’re of Celtic (Keltic) origin Ireland uses the word Fine (meaning clan) Brehon Law, the ancient legal system of Ireland clearly defined the clan system in pre-Norman Ireland, which collapsed after the Tudor Conquest. The Irish, when speaking of themselves, employed their term 'clan' which means "children of the family" in Irish, though in Northern Irish the word has come to mean 'family'; this latter is teaghlach (immediate family. household.) Clann was used in the later Middle Ages to provide a plural for surnames beginning with Mac meaning “Son of” - For example, "Clann Cárthaigh" meant “the men of the MacCarthy family” The Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Brigantes, Breton, Manx & Cornish all have ‘clans’ in their history, Before the expansions of Ancient Rome and the Germanic and Slavic tribes, a significant part of Europe was dominated by Celts, leaving behind a legacy of Celtic cultural traits. the Celtic culture spreading into Eastern Spain, Portugal (Iberia) France, Belgium, Northern Italy/Peninsula, Central Europe, including what is now Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia, Poland and the Czech Republic as well as Germany and Austria - reaching as Far East as Anatolia (Turkey) (Galatia was named after the Gauls from Thrace (cf. Tylis), who settled there and became its ruling caste in the 3rd century BC, following the Gallic invasion of the Balkans in 279 BC. It has been called the "Gallia" of the East; Roman writers calling its inhabitants Galli (Gauls or Celts). Before the Vikings and the Danes, before the Anglo-Saxons and the Romans, the Brigantes (now the people of Northern England, inc Yorkshire) spoke a Celtic language. Best described as an early version of Welsh, it can still be detected in place-names. Buried under centuries of Anglian, Old English and new, is a layer of Celtic experience of Yorkshire. In the western Dales the word pen as in Penyghent means head or hill and the name of this famous hill is pure Welsh. Less obvious is Ilkley, which comes from Olicana and Catterick from Cataractonium, both Latinised Celtic place-names. Leeds is from the name of a kindred, the Ladenses, and the River Derwent means the Oak River. The vast majority of the North of England, Brigantia (now mostly marked as Yorkshire) was inhabited by the Brigantes, a British Celtic tribe which occupied the largest territory in ancient Britain* *It’s not all Braveheart & Clan Macleod The World is big old place & history was created before the Americas were discovered
Kingjulionmort And if there is a semblance of racial hatred in something, it needs to be changed.
Oh do fvck off!

15 通の返信No, you are definetly overracting in a very sensitive nature... The damn term has been around since before vikings... VIKINGS! It's an ancient term to define a group of like minded people, family bonds even. Anyone who thinks of the alternate as a first instinct is obviously corrupted and needs a slap in the face of reality...

1 返信Eh, no matter what in-game name a company goes with for player groups, I'm not using that title when talking with someone who wouldn't be savvy to the terminology Clan, Guild, Free Company, etc. If I'm talking to someone who would have to ask what those terms mean, I'm just going to say this guy I play online with Also, don't surrender terms and symbols to hate groups

Starkweatherにより編集済み: 6/23/2021 8:52:10 PMDon’t start dragging the word ‘clan’ through the mud. It’s been a part of Scottish culture for a long time. Just because some whack jobs decided to use the word for their evil BS doesn’t mean it automatically changes definition.

And they’re right. “Whatcha doin?” “Oh, just hanging out with my clan.” “I’m sorry?! Your what?” “Yeah, I heard it...” I can’t be the only person bugged by it. I know this is something that’s a part of MANY games, but it needs a new name. No, I’m not being sensitive, no, I’m not overreacting, yes, this needs to change. Comment new name concepts if you agree, ignore this if you don’t.
Please, please Jesus Christ you really need to show up!!! Maybe you miss the cloud back in 2000 but we really need a home coming…. Pronto mi amigo!!! But you have no record of anything, back to your cave it!
