You have to remember that the uldren we met in D1 and D2 Y2, was corrupted by darkness.
There is old lore that states he was a very different guy until he and his friend entered the black garden against his sisters wishes. After that day he started acting different and of course in forsaken he was partly taken.

The fact is, since D1, he has had darkness surrounding him and his actions. Whether by circumstance we know or don't know, he is capable of feeding the dark wolf in him and I think he will. He's meant to make this choice once he gets involved in his past. It's not like our past can come to haunt us. He has a legacy within travel distance and known. He's going to turn back.
