I'm pretty sure they've shifted away from new PvP content and solely into reusing/reintroducing old D1 content. So at most you'll get some D1 maps "reprised". PvP has always been an afterthought in Destiny anyways. Something that only exists to pad content and make people think there is more to do when they run out of actual things to do.
I do feel bad for PvP mains. Not because the lack of content, but because they play Destiny for their main PvP.
There are a plethora of Multiplayer PvP games right now, and many of them actually "Free" instead of Destiny Free™. So I think Bungie has officially given up after the Trials, hackers, and nonstop balance complaints (as PvP always has) and are hoping people move elsewhere for their PvP fix.
I'm more confused as to why they removed 2 Gambit maps that are from areas still in the game... but then kept 2 Gambit maps for areas that were removed from the game.

They've not only shifted away from the pvp aspect of the game but they have also shifted away from making decent pve stuff, they've fully diverted their focus to the eververse since it takes less effort and makes more money.

I like everything about destiny. I just don’t get the same enjoyment playing other games. PVP is toxic ah but its doable. And I don’t really complain about meta weapons because I don’t use them and do alright in crucible. Jotunn -blam!-ing sucks but thats a diff conversation.

I think the problem with Destiny PvP and the key reason why people enjoy it is that it's based around "forgiveness". But most of the sweaty meta chasers go after weapons/tactics that remove the "forgiveness" from other people.
