At that point it seems more like even grounds and it becomes a trade-off based on what you choose
That's actually balanced.

Not if the only noteworthy trade-off is AA (which would likely receive the Arbalest treatment if they become specials) and possibly damage. If snipers are better in pretty much every other category, then it seems like it would just make more sense to use a sniper over a linear, especially since the former currently has a champion mod.
