Hi, I'm a fairly new player by destiny standards(I joined during season of arrivals). For that entire time, I have played gambit very consistently, first to farm 21% Delirium in season of arrivals, and then in Beyond light and season of the chosen for the ritual weapons. I like to think I carry my weight in gambit. I usually have at least 30 motes banked, one or two guardian kills(more if I invade), and I tend to do a good amount of damage to the primeval. I usually play with people who have the same skill level as me, so I'll win fairly consistently. But after playing gambit since the first week of season of the chosen, I have gotten FOUR bottom dollars(I have gambit prosperity on as well). Keep in mind that I am close to resetting my gambit rank for a second time this season. Based on this empirical data, eyes of tomorrow has a higher drop rate than this legendary hand cannon.
Recently, Bungie released an article that addressed this issue and defended it by saying that they wanted it to be a meaningful grind. This is obviously false. I can think of very few people who would be willing to play gambit with the consistency needed to get the bottom dollar on a regular basis. In the article bungie also said that they would increase the drop rate, which I have not experienced. What I have noticed is that the grenade launcher from beyond light is now dropping a lot, which leads me to believe that the likelihood of getting any gambit weapon is increased, not bottom dollar specifically. In fact I'm not getting the gambit fusion rifle either, which used to drop quite consistently before said article was released.
But let's look at it from bungie's perspective such a low drop rate is rational for a gambit weapon, because as of right now, it is the least popular playlist activity, and so what better way to incentivize players to play tons of gambit than to have a very good gun added to it? I would probably do something similar. However, what I would do is add a prize in the gambit reputation rewards. After reaching a certain rank(fabled for example), I would make loot specific quests(one for each gambit weapon) available. This encourages players to play gambit, and guarantees that they will get what they want out of gambit-a new roll of the gambit weapon they want. It is easy to regulate the cost and frequency of these quests, and it would also make free play much more rewarding. Consider that most of the weapons in destiny(that I have seen) that have such big perk pools usually have a similar quest attached to it. This is true for campaign weapons, DSC weapons(through spoils of conquest), and seasonal weapons. Even stasis aspects have a quest that go along these lines, so bungie obviously has the tools to make this happen in a very short time period.
I think my point is clear. Thank you for reading, and eyes up guardians ;)

Bungie has certain buzzwords that they fall back on when they want to say one thing...but imply something else. "Meaningful grind" ===> Grind extender. When Bungie says the want something to be a "meaningful grind" it means that their goal is to artificially extend play and stretch out the value (to Bungie) of an activity by either throttling progression.....or by being withholding. It the case of Bottom Dollar, its the latter. Making the drop rate laughably low (I have already reset my Infamy once this season already...I'm 2/3rds of the way to Gilded Dredgen...and I've not has ANY drop so far.) in the hopes that people will just keep beating their heads against that wall trying to force the weapon to drop. What Bungie refuses to accept is that this usually has the opposite effect. The stinginess makes people realize that the reward isn't worth the time and effort beind demanded for it..... ....so they disengage from pursuing it...and they actually play LESS. Not more. Whereas if they were willing to be more generous, people would actually play MORE in pursuit of specific versions of the gun. Not exhaust themselves just trying to get ONE of them to drop at all....

Oddly enough, I don’t even like the gun. I much prefer my steady hand, especially for crucible. I can pair it with felwinters, jotunn, salvo, last dance, etc. I’ve managed to get a few BD’s with decent rolls, but they just don’t feel anywhere near as good.

1 返信It seems that after a reset your first few core playlist matches / runs are at a higher drop rate. I noticed yesterday that once I'd hit 10 or so matches of gambit the drop rate fell off a cliff to its normal shitty rate. Theres anti-farm software running in the background thats for sure. The more you play the less you get.

First one I got on my first Gambit match of the season had accurised rounds, killing wind and rampage. I then got a crap roll on my third match and gave up. I use it a bit but I only use HC’s because Bungie has put a gun (hand canon) to our heads in PvP.

2 通の返信I'm up to 51 straight matches with ZERO Bottom Dollar drops. Loot this season sucks balls

5 通の返信No. I needed 31 clears for EoT. I’ve already dismantled a dozen bottom dollars because they weren’t very good rolls. RNG is different for everybody in every activity. Yours is just bad when it comes to bottom dollar.

2 通の返信6 bottom dollars with 1 reset... ...EoT dropped at my 31st raid completion, now at 42 I think, still just that 1 single drop.

2 通の返信The grind IS meaningful if the grind is not beyond random rng for rolls that truly make a difference. I am on my soon to be fourth infamy reset grinding for a god roll... because of rng. My time is not respected... especially in d2 where p2p networking and random teams vs stacked running non skill weapons... But I do not give up because I want. The issue is that there needs to be cap in destiny. I have a 30k+ to 1 chance to get the god roll... no matter if it is I putting in the work, or a day 1 game 1 person that just got lucky. That is the issue with destiny.

3 通の返信
What I have noticed is that the grenade launcher from beyond light is now dropping a lot
It doesn't drop a lot. That is a relevant statement though. Being a newer player you might not be aware of why we make Burnt Edge Transits for Rahool. 🤣

1 返信I’m well past my 3rd reset and had 5 drop- all pretty worthless rolls. Normally I would be playing Destiny right now but I’m burnt out playing Gambit for apparently a non existent weapon. Netflix is keeping me entertained since Bungie has forgotten how.
