I'm assuming you didn't read what I had to say (understandable, it's a lot).
My primary point was that in order to make sunsetting work long term Bungie needs to create spaces for sunset weapons to still be used, and to make those spaces feel both rewarding and enjoyable.
I would argue the the primary play spaces like playlist activities should be light capped for a variety of reasons, but that along side those we need occasional "events" or re-occuring activities that drive player engagement and reward long-term players with a place to use old favorites.
To bring it back to MtG, when the rotating model was introduced you were not asked to burn your old cards, instead additional formats were provided for players who prefer the larger card base and more player investment that comes along with it. Destiny needs to follow suit.

Then I'll know you haven't read my reply, understandable because it isn't what you want to hear. You stated perpetual Sunsetting, amongst other things is 'necessary', good for the game, minimised opposition as a temporary condition, and offered pseudo solutions in the form of curated rolls being both exempt and reobtainable - despite some of the important ones being amongst the powerful of their kind. NO. Sunsetting is INCOMPATIBLE with the loot and perk system of the game. It isn't good for the game, nor necessary. It's good for keeping players on a dull regrind. The problems of Pinnacles were addressed as was some of WHY it doesn't work. What's needed is for them to realise players understand the regrind and reissue CON, undo the damage from our endlessly burning collection, and focus on making actually replayable activities that will help retain numbers instead of merely dangling better versions of what we already have.

You respond NO to sunsetting, boldly and aggressively, calling it incompatible with the game, but you aren't backing that up in any way. That is an opinion, and a strong one, but that doesn't make it true. I'll try to use some real world evidence to back up my arguments here. To keep with the theme of MtG, look at the play rates and interest in Legacy MtG over the years. While most other areas continue to grow, Legacy MtG has diminished significantly. The fact is that as the "loot pool" grows, whether that is cards or weapons, the game becomes more stagnant, overwhelming, and intimidating to new players. If MtG only had Legacy, the game would have a fraction of the current player base. Likewise, if Destiny never introduced sunsetting, the game would slowly lose players while being unable to entice new ones. Creating a format such as standard MtG or seasonal sunsetting in Destiny, creates a more welcoming environment for new players, allows the meta to shift, helps manage power creep and creates player engagement. You can see this in the way play rates in MtG rise after the release of a new set and slowly die down as metas are formed and formats begin to stagnate. Players quickly decide what is best, and things rarely shift significantly. When rotation happens, old tools are removed, new ones are introduced, and players become interested in trying to find the newest, strongest option available. In a format like Vintage, only a handful of the hundreds of new magic cards printed every year actually break through and see a significant amount of play. The same problem was occurring with Destiny and would only become exacerbated with time. Destiny is a looter shooter. If only only a few guns each year can keep up with the ever expanding loot pool, the looter part dies, and Destiny dies along with it. This leaves designers with three options: A) produce dozens or hundreds of new items every year knowing that a tiny fraction would every be used significantly B) increase weapon strength each new season, driving interest but creating power creep C) create a rotating system that would allow formats to continually be refreshed Option A does not work for innumerable reasons. It is a waste of developer time and does not drive player interest or engagement. Option B creates constant game balance issues and essentially invalidates old weapons anyway. Option C, along with support for legacy play in some form, is the only way to keep new and casual players interested while still satisfying legacy players.

Yes I DID. "Dull, repetitive, no ownership, no time respected, no long term goals, no characters (our loot IS our characters), no collecting, no perfecting". In addition to specifying the incompatibility of the perk system. Which, to spoonfeed, can offer well over 10,000 variations per item on a PURELY RNG basis. All those things are reasons given for the fundamental incompatibility of perpetual Sunsetting in Destiny 2. As you've shown you're not interested in reading replies to specific points whilst offering bloated essays in reply (in the same manner as the other main pro-Sunsetter here), I'll leave reading further.

I've read your replies and offered thorough, thoughtful responses. It's clear from your hostility as well as your public profile that your views are personal, and heavily entrenched. It's fine to not like sunsetting, but so far each of arguments ("Dull, repetitive, no ownership, no time respected, no long term goals, no characters (our loot IS our characters), no collecting, no perfecting") have either been incoherent and poorly stated, opinion based, or have been addressed by my recommended changes. It seems like you want to repeat old talking points and jump at a chance to hate on sunsetting rather than actually engaging with any of these ideas. That is a waste of both of our time, and I agree that if that is all that you are interested in doing you should move on.

Wow. What an offensive and petty reply. My public profile, you wish to bring in now? You started telling others they didn't read your essay then reinterpreted what was said negatively. Continued by, ironically, not reading the very reply addressing your issue. Now your even more personally attacking my posts with garbage about coherence? Which basic point did you fail to comprehend? You haven't responded to ANY of the points put to you about INCOMPATIBLITY rather more petty bs. Have a free block.
