For everyone saying these Holiday Events are "free" they infact are not. These events are part of why Bungie introduced and justified Eververse in D1 to fund both these events and the game

It does make you curious about where the Eververse revenues go, and also how much funding this event got. From what I've seen we only got 1 new Fusion Rifle and a new tree in the Tower, with of course Bungie's RecycledContent™. I can't say I'm mad about missing this event tbh --------------------------------------------------- Edit: two quotes here both recent and old with implications that Bungie either is or should be using the Eververse revenues to fund events and better the game. My issue is simply that I don't see that happening. Bungie is not poor, and they are not alone they've entered in a partnership with NetEase and have already seen support from that partnership. I feel like many agree that Players deserved much more than a tree in the tower, a Fusion Rifle, and a generic event reward from a quest that wasn't engaging. Bungie has been making games since 1991, they are not new, green, wet behind the ears, or however you might phrase it. Bungie has been making games longer than some of you here have lived. In the Destiny franchise Bungie has been with it for 6 years. bungie will NEVER gain more relevant data at this point on how to please players in Destiny. When they fail it may as well be intentional because they already know what has been enough, and what hasn't. Every time these dudes under deliver I can't help but look at that content and feel they knew exactly what they did, and in the case of this event it seems Bungie shorted the playerbase an event so they could pad their pockets D1: Introducing Eververse
Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests.
https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/13672/7_Introducing-Eververse-Trading-Company D2: Director's Cut Part I SEASON OF OPULENCE, PART II: THE EVOLVING EVERVERSE
Last year, we thought long and hard about Eververse and how we wanted to change the strategy around microtransactions in Destiny.  As some folks have smartly pointed out, MTX is a big part of our business being a live game. I'm not going to say "MTX funds the studio" or "pays for projects like Shadowkeep" -- it doesn't wholly fund either of those things. But it does help fund ongoing development of Destiny 2, and allows us to fund creative efforts we otherwise couldn't afford. For example: Whisper of the Worm's ornaments were successful enough that it paid [dev cost-wise] for the Zero Hour mission/rewards to be constructed (this shit matters!).
https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/48058

  • I want to touch on 2 things. #1: Our money funds the events and the game, not just one or the other. But since bungie is a business, they also do it to fund their livelihoods. So to everyone that says it's free...no it isn't, because we aren't donating our money, we have people paying for a product that others get to take advantage of. So if every single person stopped buying microtransactions and bungie earned no money, they wouldn't be creating this stuff for us. Somebody gets paid to do it and somebody is paying for it. It's only free to those who DON'T which tricks people into believing bungie just gives it to us, which is not the case. Could they create stuff at no expense or charge directly for the content? Absolutely, but the psychology of it will have you investing more in the future because it's "free." How do you think free to play games survive or thrive excessively? Because somebody else is paying to support the game you take advantage of which extends it's longevity and only gives them and you more time to invest in it. It's a game inside of itself and it's why mobile games literally make millions, because they are "free." How do you make money if it's free? How do thousands of players end up not spending money on a product that produces stuff on a regular basis? Are the ones creating the content charity workers? No they sure as hell aren't. #2: This coincides with what I said above. So if we the consumers stopped paying for their product, eventually they would have to bow to us and not the other way around. When we the consumers ask for improvements, we are entitled to better products because we ultimately fund what they create. When you believe that you have no power over a company, you need to understand that a company might not care if it's just YOU leaving. But as more and more people leave, they will take notice and begin to make changes to either retain their remaining audience or do something to bring them back. We the consumer fund what they produce. It is not some one way street where the producer gets to do whatever they want at our expense. Though people are pretty content with letting this happen because they see it as a "luxury," when Iin fact said luxury wouldn't exist without proper funding. The awful ea sports games get to run rampant because their players are ignorant to the power they have. They don't WANT you to understand how important you are and so they deceive you into believing you have no power. And so what happens? Year after year they make a worse and worse product but line their pockets with gold as you suffer. Governments are literally having to step in to ensure that these greedy -blam!- don't keep ringing out their consumers and that is EXACTLY what happens when people just get content with SHIT. I'm not saying people should just stop paying to get what they want, nor should they ask for outrageous things and expect to have them. But people need to understand that...none of this shit we have "no entitlement or power over" would exist if not for our funding. And when funding starts to take a hit, guess what happens. They start to "listen." What happened to year 2 of d2? They "listened" because people were leaving in droves. So where does ALL of this apply to destiny? Bungie can keep making mistakes because some other people will fund them for us. They can make hundreds of thousands of dollars off of people who are content with whatever they produce, and so anybody who might have a legitimate concern could simply be ignored because a couple of people MAY leave, but who cares if they leave if some other person justifies their excessive spending as "funding the game." Yeesh that was quite a tangent for today. Wonder what kind of comments I'll get.

    • Do you know what's interesting? Not one single person on your post that thinks the events are "free" has provided a link/proof that it is. Opinions are not fact people and before the normal ones that like to troll me come at me saying "you didn't provide a link the shop does". The OP got the link from me from D1 that shows all of you are actually wrong thinking the events are "free".

      • The event is free. You don't have to pay a single cent to participate in the event. You can play the events 100% free. I'm sorry that you think cosmetics are so important that they are, in fact, the real event as opposed to, well... the event.

Never mind the base game and all the expansions up to this point, the season passes, eververse that made 600+ million the last 2 years, etc... never contribute the cost for the events, right? People need to wake up especially the ones that use the word "free" in this game. What it all comes down to is that the ones using (free) usually have nothing to say at all when a legit argument is placed in front of them, and they try to use that to either trigger players on this forum or to try to use that to justify Bungie's deliberate poor actions on not wanting to put effort into this game creating new loot. Here, why don't the ones that play this little game go look at a lot of other games that offer events, and try to show me they don't at least try to come up with new loot to chase and contently copy and paste loot as this company actually does? Yes, some do, no need to explain the obvious. But some have the respect for their player base to at least put the effort into their game, unlike Bungie. Edit: Personally, I wish the moderators would get rid of the players that constantly harass others because they don't like what somone posted. Take me for an example because I get all kinds of attention because I post things about this company and game some don't like. Now, it's true that a lot of it is negative, (but it shouldn't be okay for the moderators to allow players to constantly harass me or other players on this forum trying to make them feel like trash because they don't like something someone said about the company or game.)

            • The rewards you got for Eva you didn’t have to buy them you just had to do a community quest. Yes Eververse had things you can buy with silver but that wasn’t part of the community event. So in a sense the community event was a free added thing you didn’t need to pay for.

              • Thank you for pointing this out. Either everything is paid for, or nothing is. Bungie claims the game is “free to play,” yet charges for Eververse and DLCs? Confusing to say the least. Perhaps we should revisit the definition for fee, I-I mean FREE! Yeah that’s what I meant to say! 😏

                  • They’re not free in exactly the same way nothing in life is ever free. You act like you’ve discovered some hidden truth. Here’s another: when your local market has a “buy one get one free” sale, it’s not really free, either, since they’re recouping the investment through other avenues and increased traffic. Amazing!
And meaningless.
• I'm not curious, they make around 300 million a year in eververse. That money plus the money made from actual game sales, go toward running a company. A thing that many people on this place seem to forget, jor even more likely don't understand.

I agree that Bungie lacks consistency and seems to make up policies as they go. Maybe it's just time for you to let it go and move on from the forum too. Bungie pisses me off sometimes but I still like the game itself so I continue to play.

So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

                                • Let me get this straight. The destiny community was destined to fail this event because we were way behind. Bungie had to step in to help us meet the community goal so that we can get the exotic rewards. But once we got the reward we were still unhappy and still -blam!-. Don’t you see that this is a problem here. Yes, bungie have made some questionable decisions, but here they are helping out the community to get some rewards for the holidays. Yet, instead of being grateful for them, you guys criticized them of the rewards. So ungrateful.

Couldn't Bungie simply create the results and simply have designed the event as simply a small add-on from start to finish?

Infact its always the season that coincides with the xmas event that I 100% finish the EV engram loot table. every repeatable 6k exp, every gift in return 8k exp, upgrade materials, legendarys, blues. This season event if it were always active would break the resource econ. I mean if your expecting crazy loot well yea... but the value of this event is the exp and resources.

If you did buy from Eververse, you got what you paid for at the time. Bungie just reinvested part or all of that money into the game to benefit the community as a whole. You attitude is what people speak of when they say “entitled”. Bungie didn’t owe us a seasonal event.
