I'm going to throw a disclaimer out that what I'm about to say is based off of my observations from clans I have been in, how I've run my clan, and patterns on the forums.
This is a generalization and I obviously cannot speak for every clan in the game.
When people are looking for clans, the most common thing they look at is the size of the clan. Makes sense right? A clan with 100 people or a clan network of multiple clans is more appealing than a clan of 20 or less members.
Another thing you guys look at is the clan requirements. A lot of you opt into clans that have little to no requirements because this is a game, not a job, right?
And then the final major thing that's looked for is what type of clan it is. Is it Endgame focused? Pvp focused. Casual, sweaty, raid, etc. You want to be in a clan that is advertising that it is doing the stuff you're looking for.
(ps I know platform is relevant but that's more restricted to what you have and not what you can do.)
So here comes the point of this post.
Make sure you know what you're looking for as well as what you're joining when you y look at recruitment posts.
When you're joining clans based of large numbers, you are usually going to run into a few things.
1)There are usually small groups of friends within those clans that always play with each other.
2) There is likely going to be many many people that are extremely if not completely inactive.
Like I said above, big numbers attract people and every clan here is trying to attract people. Doesn't matter how many are inactive, because on the surface a large number looks more attractive, until you get in there and only have a portion of those members active and a portion of the active members that don't only play inside of their own friends group.
Essentially these clans are glorified lfgs. So if you're just looking for a place to be able to Lfg, these types of clans are good for you.
In regards to clan requirements, really think about what this means. If a clan has no requirements, then it is likely full of people that are rarely on or that never want to play with each other. From experience of trying to run my clan this way, no requirements means very little gets done.
If you're super casual or just need the engrams, then these types of clans are for you. Clans are not night and day. Just because a clan has requirements does not mean that they run it like a job. Requirements are necessary for the most part so that a clan is keeping members that have the same goals and want to accomplish the same things.
A final note about requirements: There is no need to get mad at clans that have high requirements (raid clear, kds, etc). Like I said, they're just trying to keep people around with the same goals.
And regarding the type of clan. The biggest issue I see with people here (this happens a lot with my clan) is not paying attention to what you want when you're looking.
If you mainly play pvp, it makes no sense to join a pve focused clan. But many of you do because you don't like the requirements of big pvp clans. You join and then after two weeks, you leave because there aren't enough people that want to do pvp. You're going to have to make a compromise. If you join an "all around" or pve focused clan, be the anchor that helps build the pvp section of that clan. Unless your clan leader is a complete tool (or the roster is full), they shouldn't have an issue with trying to help or letting you recruit other people that are in your shoes.
Make sure you know what you are looking for and make sure you know what you're getting yourself into.
If you made it to the end of this, thank you for reading.

I've bookmarked your later viewing. since my clan is tiny, it's made some things difficult for us. Seeing what players might be interested in in their clans might help out later if we decide to create a recruitment statement here at a later time. Thanks for posting your thoughts here.

I like that. Nicely put. I’ve stopped engaging in clans for the most part. I seemed to gain more friends than I’d actually play with in those groups. It’s not easy being a solo player but it’s better to be solo and happy. No toxicity. No drama. Just me. My fat dabs and the joy of Destiny.

Yeah totally agree with that break down of this. As clan leader myself i have experience this myself. I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has experience that on a daily basis. I would also add to anybody looking for a clan to ask questions about the clan to see if its a good fit for you. I have to told people that we have different people from different timezone and then they join and after like a hour of being in the clan they leave and said its not active. Even those I told them that were all in different timezone and that not everyone going to be online at the same time. I'm the only to experience that. Well thx for letting me rant 😂

I would probably add something important, look at the clan leadership, If they play often, it is likely that the clan has a better success rate and staying power then a clan with a leadership group that doesn't play. Everything else is bang on here. Knowing your own goals and finding clans that fit will help both be more successful.
