I know I’m not the first person to ask for this, but I wanted to lend my personal perspective on this issue. An old buddy of mine decided to try D2 again with beyond light. Awesome! I’m super excited to play with him again and introduce him to all the truly great improvements and killer new stuff added to the game (he left around Curse of Osiris).
I found myself talking to him about all this new stuff there is to do! The dreaming city! The blind well! Gambit! Strike weapons! New raids! And Dungeons! As a player who, like me, often struggled to find a welcoming fire team to take on old raids, the idea of what is essentially a three, two, or one player mini raid was super appealing to him.
Then it hit me.
The loot of almost all of these activities, from all of the expansions, that he would have to *pay money* to experience, has been sunset. The loot aspect of these pursuits has been effectively neutered.
Why on earth would I take him into the shattered throne when we can’t use any of the loot we get from that experience? Why bother with the pit of heresy when we couldn’t use any of the armor of weapons we could collect? Why explore the moon and it’s many horrors or the dreaming city and it’s many mysteries with the loot carrot at the end of this looter-shooter-stick has been effectively removed?
Again I know I’m not the first person to bring this up, I won’t be the last.
I *get* why Sunsetting is a thing. But please do not sunset gear from active, paid parts of the game. And especially not from endgame content like dungeons. They’re some of the best additions you’ve made to the game! And one of them is not in the game right now and the other two give you weapons and armor you can’t use. That’s a problem.

48 通の返信They need to get rid of sunsetting entirely. It's done exactly what D2's launch did: invalidate all our progress up to a point. Which is exactly what they wanted to avoid with Beyond Light, instead of releasing a D3. What's the point in grinding stuff if it's all going to be irrelevant in a year or so anyway? They could've at least added more guns to the loot pool to offset some of it, but no. That would've required actual effort, and that's a big no-no. That, and I miss my black armory guns...

1 返信It’s really disrespectful that I spent hours in the forge to have my master work curated kindled orchid sunset. It’s really disrespectful that my raid gear will eventually be sunset. The hours I spent in comp getting luna’s, the hours I spent getting revoker, it just goes on and on. I almost don’t want to play the raid because I’m mainly solo finding a raid team is hard and the gear will get sunset anyway. So why bother?

Sunsetting was a mistake. I get why it had to happen but at the same time it only killed my drive to keep playing. I won't ever grind another pinnacle weapon knowing that they're just gonna sunset it at some point. I also don't know if I wanna buy dlc in the future if in one year it'll be pointless. Shadowkeep is barely a year old and her the masterwork armor I got from the dungeon can't even be used anymore? How is that not a kick in the balls. Sunsetting could have definitely worked, if Bungie took their heads out of their asses long enough to actually do it properly. Also, and maybe I'm just dumb for not getting it, but how the hell was IO, a moon of Jupiter, taken by the darkness, but not Europa? They orbit the same planet, so it just doesn't make sense to me. The same goes for Mercury. If we go by the order of planets, everything from Mars and beyond would be taken, but Mercury is further from it than us. Doesn't really make sense that the Darkness arrived at, and took Mercury before taking Earth or the Moon. Unless they're solar system is in a completely different order from ours.

11 通の返信I'm of two minds about sunsetting: 1. They sunset too much. Should have sunset the pinnacles and everything up to Shadowkeep. Far too much went away just because they couldn't figure out how to get people to stop using Mountaintop and Recluse everywhere. That was bad. 2. On the other hand, right now in World of Warcraft I just replaced two legendary items-the equivalent of exotics-one of which had been part of an expansion long quest series, the other the key hook of an entire patch-with leveling gear. I know, ten thousand people are running towards their keyboards to say that Destiny isn't a MMO because it isn't massive, whatever. The point is that I have become long immune to having my gear become unusable in current content that Destiny doing it only gets me to go "well you guys did this wrong" not "You're wrong to do this." Honestly? They should have sunset Mountaintop, Recluse, Izanami's, Whisper, and a couple more of the overused streamer guns, sunset Y1 and Forsaken, and left Shadowkeep alone. Put all the armory guns into the general loot pool. Blam, there's plenty of guns with the problem children gone. But I am honestly used to seeing gear go away. Because it's a game with a loot grind, and planned obsolescence is built into them.

12 通の返信This struck me too when I saw what I got for doing eight bounties on Dreaming City in the 1st week of BL hoping for a small upgrade. A 1060 armor with the sunset symbol. So basically, as the Game is now, the only planet where you can actually get something is Europa. Rest is dead meat. The Cosmodrome has nothing to offer after you played the introduction quests. And the old planets may have the one or other blue World drop if you level up but that's it. So, with BL it is even more reduced to the three core activities. But we have less Strikes now, Gambit is super minimal, too minimal for me. Crucible is not my cup of tea but I heard that there is also nothing new to chase for outside of Trials and Iron Banner. This is not sunsetting. They have switched their operation model completely. This is not a one time action. This will happen each season now, or each two. In a Year from now, there will be no reason to ever go to Europa again and there will be another planet, huge and empty that will last another Year. When I play a Game, I want it to evolve. This whole process starts with taking more away than adding plus opening the path to make everything you play now obsolete a Year after that and this will be an ongoing model. I stopped playing before Shadowkeep came out and came back a few weeks before BL but this will be my last season. This time, I had at least some incentive when I came back. The moon was interesting and provided loot that was upgrading me. Thanks God I got what it had to offer by the time it was active. What will happen if I want to return again after another break? There will be a new planet most probably but there is nothing to get from there. This whole concept is so crazy, not a single other company has ever done something like that so I am not sure how this came to existance and how anyone can think this is an improvement or consolidation. I honestly also can't hear the "we are without Activision" anymore. How can it be that if there are less mouths to feed and less content, the costs for playing the Game are the same as in times where Activision got a piece of the cake, too? I never had a problem with the relation of playtime vs. money spent but this is questionable in my book.

1 返信I get the argument and I agree with it...but those activities you mentioned for a first time player are still an amazing experience. They could still at least experience it but yea the loot is worthless.

One of the things that bugs me most about sunsetting is how two of the same weapon can have different completely arbitrary power caps, e.g. I currently have 2x Last Preditions, one capped at 1360 the other capped at 1060, and of course the 1060 one is the one that has a slightly better roll on it.

5 通の返信Oryx's Slimy Wormにより編集済み: 11/26/2020 9:35:53 PMThey should have only sunset the pinnacle weapons, thats what broke the game. Endgame loot should have never been sunset, same as the seasonal loot. Ill will bump this 100+ times myself if thats what it takes for Bungie to see

Yeah I agree, similar to your friend I left D2 before shadow keep but returned with beyond light. I am enjoying it again so bought shadow keep. But the weapon drops in the campaign are maxed, but not in free roam.Doesn’t seem right that they still sell those older dlc’s but restrict the max power of the campaign weapons. Don’t think this whole issue was handled as well as it might have been. In any case, more positively, I am enjoying destiny again, europa is fine and I even like the old D1 cosmodrome & moon maps.

1 返信They STILL CHARGE for the old DLC's "Expansions" which have all the sunset gear. Hmmm :) I almost regret coming back from D1 seing how super greedy they are.

C1B3Dにより編集済み: 11/28/2020 7:09:42 AMIts so beyond stupidity, they still selling Forsaken and Shadowkeep but the loot is a waste. Like turn your brain Bungie, how should a new player feel that just got Forsaken/Shadowkeep when he/she earn items that are useless for everything PvE related? Your position is clear, you want that players grind for new stuff so you can stretch the playtime, instead just infuse old god rolls and everything is dead. You still can achieve that, let people infuse Sunset gear with specific materials that you only get from high end activities.

1 返信I would kill to be able to use the dreaming city armor again. The warlock set was perfection.

3 通の返信Authorにより編集済み: 11/28/2020 2:29:08 AMLISTEN! Sunsetting means exactly what the name means. Eventually the sun will rise. These weapons will be brought back at some point in the future with new perks. If you think about it, this gives bungie a lot of power to just overload us with weapons in any particular season or expansion.

I think they sunset the wrong gear. Shadow Keep and up should have stayed while throwing in year 1 weapons with random rolls. Too many Y1 weapons didn't get to shine due to lack luster static rolls. That along with any new gear would have been a good start. My issue now is I dont see anything in the current loot pool to replace my favorites. This is coming from someone who neither had recluse or mountaintop. There are only like two weapons I'm chasing. Cloudstrike and Royal Chase.
