The CEO of XBox was right. Amazon is positioning themselves to be a formidable competitor in cloud gaming....and Google is about to get beaten up, and have their lunch money stolen.
Luna is basically in pre-release beta testing (direct invitation from Amazon only)and is already a superior consumer product compared to Stadia.
Although Stadia’s technology is slightly better, Amazon has the better business model and is already doing a much better job of consumer expectations/customer service.
In short, Luna is shaping up to be that Netflix for games model that the market seems to want. Instead of buying individual games on a virtual console (Stadia), you subscribe to different levels of service...and the games are included.
I subscribed to the base service which has a reasonable selection of games from a range of developers.
Where Luna shines is where they borrow from MS and Game Pass...but cut out the middle man. I also subscribed to a new service that Ubisoft is offering through Luna. It works like Netflix. For the monthly fee you get access to almost all of the games from Ubisoft’s catalog from the last five years.
What turned out to be a very pleasant surprise was finding that—-when I logged into The Division 2—my characters from the Stadia version of the game we waiting there for me. To pick up where I left off, because matchmaking was such a hassle because of low player counts.
But the new Ubisoft games were also thee to be played whenever, including Watch_dogs: Legions and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
If Amazon can workout similar deals with other publishers and independent devs...MS is going to have their hand full.
Game play is smooth and better than Stadia on initial play. But unlike Google, Amazon has broken the Apple firewall and can be played (through Safari) on iPhone and iPad.
The only complaint I have so far is that there is a loading screen after you select a game. As opposed to the near instant access you get with Stadia.
But that is a minor trade off when you factor in how vastly superior Luna is right now as a product and service...and will likely be for the foreseeable future.
In short, Luna is starting to show what cloud gaming can become when its being provided by a company that knows how to interact with consumers.
Will post more when I get more experience with the new platform.

1 返信It looks cool. You think d2 would be added for it. Already looks more promising then stadia.

5 通の返信I've never really been interested in a game subscription. I just prefer to buy the game and know that it is mine to keep without additonal expenses.

Cultmeisterにより編集済み: 11/25/2020 10:34:41 PMThe only issue I have with these things is that I have terrible internet most of the time. As much as I love the portability cloud gaming promises (I seem to move house quite a lot and carrying around big-ass consoles from one side of the city to the other is getting tedious) I just am forced by shitty internet to be a download-and-play-locally person. Although my first priority will always be the quality of the games over the way they’re accessed, so if Amazon don’t get some decent devs/pubs on their side I will happily stick with my Xbox.

Psyntifikにより編集済み: 11/25/2020 4:40:34 PMDon't think I'll subscribe yet, but I'll look into it. I need game streaming to play all the games I don't really care about but still want to give a whirl for an evening. Stuff like Red Dead 2. The download is too big and the price is too high for me to want to commit that time, money and space to something I know I won't fully enjoy. My only gripe with game streaming is the quality. Not just stream quality, but actual game effects.I'd probably use the service full time if it was comparable to the settings I can get running a game naively.

1 返信I dunno if it was you who said something along the lines of this but Sony is making a smart play by letting the competition do all the dirty work for them.
