Nope.
I play destiny because of the loot pursuit. You can say whatever you want about that, but that’s why I play. I’m not going to pick on anyone for the reason they play because ultimately we are all different, and I hope you will all do me the same courtesy.
I have a personal gripe about the trending direction of this game. I enjoy the grind, and I’m sure that’s an unpopular opinion. I play because I like the aspect of RNG. Sometimes I get what I want, most of the time I don’t. But that’s where I find the joy, I like to grind. It was what kept me playing all through destiny 1, and it’s the pursuit of that same type of grind that has kept me hoping destiny 2 will embrace that same style. But instead, you have continued to give players easier avenues to get the “god rolls” and the exotics. When I look back on my fondest memories in destiny, it was farming for a god roll imago loop, or a grasp of malok, or eyasluna.
But these days, we get the “prismatic recaster” type of content. It’s a cheap way to give casual players hope of being in the same level as the players who have poured so much into this because we love the chase for loot. It takes the enjoyment out of playing this game. The loot grind was perfect, and all you had to do was keep that direction and simply expand on the CONTENT model. But instead, the content model has basically stayed the same, and you keep experimenting on how to change the loot system. And now I hear about this kiosk that will allow you to spend materials to get RAID EXOTICS. I’m sorry bungie, but you’re taking the things I’m proud of having, and giving them to people who didn’t earn them.
Many people will say “you didn’t earn the items, you got a lucky drop”. Dude, I had to slog it out on lfg-roulette and suffer through the most unbearable people over and over until I got all of my raid exotics. Yes it’s a random chance to get raid exotics, but I rode it out until I got my weapons. I do not support this direction and I’m so close to giving up on the franchise for going in the opposite direction that I want.
I’m sure this fall content is going to be fine, every fall DLC typically delivers for a while. But they’re becoming less and less enjoyable because of the directional decisions this company is making. Some decisions are fine, I support sunsetting because it eliminates certain weapons becoming over-dominant, and I might actually enjoy farming for weapons once again because they won’t have to contend with mountaintop and recluse.
Please bungie, consider the fact that players like me are fizzling because of the cheapened grind.
My disappointment is the fact pinnacles like Not Forgotten are going to be purchased. I ran raids and the rng is terrible but its not the same as 5500 legend or being a gambit maniac. I support accessibility but not outright handing stuff out. Just feels like I paid to beta test while everyone else just get it. Whats next? A kiosk to hand out titles?
Yeah, no.
You conveniently leave out examples where first time players enter content and get ”rare” items on the first or second run. As rare as Ghorn was in D1, even when it was sold by Xur in the second week, those that got it, didn’t freak out because they didn’t know what they had.
Same item, different perspective... and the perspective is ALL the difference. Perspectives are subject to change, as well, cannot be quantified in any rational manner. Therefore, I refuse to support tailoring the game to moving targets, and subjective, emotional reasoning.
Accessibility, not elitism, and the need for hyped up surprise mechanics, Is the way forward.
