Huh... you mean to tell me the free to play games makers want you to spend money on their premium currency just like every other free to play game on the planet, because without that they lose out on a lot of their profit and if you spend more they can make more which gives them a bigger budget to improve the game? What An Incredible Concept

  • You’re right - there was an argument for this before when you paid $60 for the privelage of buying from eververse- but now they are free to play you really can’t blame them - and if you like the game you should be supporting them too...

  • Absolutely. Have been. But this stuff here? Why? What’s the point of removing that stuff? Na, I don’t like that. I don’t like the path they’re taking. There is no entitlement. We’re not entitled to anything, and neither are they if we don’t like the product they’re putting out. By all means, if you do, enjoy it to its fullest and support it. All these ppl don’t like it and are expressing that. I don’t either. Remains to be seen where it goes from here

  • Thank you for your interest in talking on this forum. If you’d like to continue this conversation, please deposit 2000silver into your account. Thank you for playing. Buy silver. All seriousness though, you and all vets ARE entitled. I said I thought that, and rather than remain calm, you began to act out like a karen throwing a fit. Then you turn around and say you're not entitled. So you're entitled AND a liar.

  • Destiny ain't completely free to play, buddy

  • No "free to play" game is completely free. Every single one of them has either paid DLCs, a paid premium currency, or both. Free to play means that you do not have to pay for the base game, and there are ways to earn most things in-game without paying. Destiny is free to download, free to play the base game, and you can use bright dust, earned from bounties, to get things that usually cost silver whenever they come for sale in the bright dust store. "free to play" and "completely free" have never meant the same thing, and that isn't even a valid point. Destiny 2 is free to play. Just because you can't wrap your head around that doesn't mean it's untrue.

Drug dealers got upset when Bungie copied their model. Just curious if you are aware of the profit margin percentage average comparison to game sales? My bet, if you did know, not a single word in any of your replies would have made it on this thread.

  • If you want a real f2p game, look at genshin impact. You can get the premium currency from just playing the game, you'll never pay for the content updates, and you could possibly get every character and weapon with enough time. It is a gachapon game, so it's similar to bright engrams, but with characters. Stop defending bungie's terrible business model. Genshin Impact may not have the best model either, but it's better than bungie's double dipping.

  • Genshin also isn't an MMORPG, and is an outlier in the industry. Warframe, World of Tanks, Destiny 2, Fortnite, League of Legends, Smite, Brawlhalla, Dauntless, Fallout Shelter, DC Universe, Pokemon GO, Realm Royale, and Warface are all free-to-play games, but every single one of them has a paid premium currency. In SOME cases, you can earn the paid currency in-game for free, but never without spending money at least once. Do not act like ONE game determines the average business model. I am not defending or prosecuting Bungie. I am explaining. Both fanatics and hardcore haters need to stop seeing explanations as one side or the other, it IS possible to have a neutral stance. Destiny is, by the textbook definition, and by the industry standards, a free-to-play game. Your opinions don't change that. Your personal definition, unless it matches that of the actual definition, does not change that. What you consider "free-to-play" does not change that. It is free-to-play. That's a simple and basic fact.

  • I ain't a "hardcore hater," but the simple fact is most of those games don't double dip on the money whoring. Warframe also gives out really big, free updates while only having a premium currency that isn't necessary to beat the game. Bungie charging for dlc content, AND pushing player towards silver and away from bright dust is complete bullshit. I loved Destiny since it lauched, but this has gotten out of hand. Hell, even comparing D1 to D2, D2 had way more monetized gear than earnable gear. When D2 launched, the only was to get a sparrow was from Holliday or Eververse, and the former didn't allow that until the endgame. In D1, your third mission gives you your sparrow.

  • But is it even really a problem that they're dropping us from ~45k down to ~30k? That should still be more than enough to buy whatever you're wanting from the bright dust store, and they're still not forcing you to buy silver. Buying silver is still entirely your decision. I'm just not seeing a problem here.

  • I'd say it'd be much better to be rewarded with a lot for little effort. 6 bounties that are easily completed is much better that leveling up the season pass that will take most players all season

  • Bright Dust is free. Silver isn't. Bright Dust is a free alternative to Silver. As such, they have to make you actually EARN the dust. So...I can see why they make it harder to get. And since Bounties aren't hard to do anyways, and can be completed by just playing the game the way you normally would, I really don't see an issue. As for completing the season pass, it's not that hard to do that either. Myself, my friends, and their friends almost always have ours done halfway through the season, and we're not even hardcore players.

  • But that's still longer than it would take with the bounties. You really can't change my mind on this. The monetization method is kinda -blam!-ed. And that's coming from someone who plays gacha games.

  • I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm trying to understand it. I genuinely, honest to god, can NOT see a problem with what they're doing. Maybe it's because I do bounties as a way to pass time, so I'm not really losing out on doing anything else to begin with. Maybe it's cause my friends help me with my bounties, so it feels way less tedious. Maybe it's cause I was raised to be thankful for what I have instead of demanding more, so I'm fine with whatever they do as long as there's SOME way to earn silver-based items for free. But I actually cannot understand the problem here, so I'm trying to figure it out.

  • "Most of us have paid" no. MOST current players are those that got the game after the switch to free-to-play. Which was a very long time ago. Meaning they haven't gotten money for game purchases in a very long time. All their D2 profit comes from Silver and DLCs now, and it's been that way for quite some time. You paid, ages ago. Congratulations. It's still a free to play game now. Just because you paid a long time ago doesn't mean it's not free now.

  • Time isn't even real anyways. In the gaming industry, new games come out every few seconds. A company has to really make their game worth it to last very long. Look at Dauntless. It started out weak as hell, and stayed there, because the devs didn't bother to try. But look at Genshin Impact. It started out near-hated, and now it's one of the most popular free games out there. Dauntless isn't an old game, at all. But by the industry standards, it's considered ancient history because it failed almost immediately, and these days it's barely even known, so it may as well be ancient knowledge. A full year is a long time in this industry. Now, under your logic, saying it isn't, right? It's still been long enough that the whole "I paid for my copy! Do as I say!" mentality should have died out.

  • Ya I don’t think you’ve thought that one all the way through either. Ppl have spent plenty of money. Where’s the improvements? Where is the game “better”? Where’s the content? Do you know how all this works?

  • I do, actually. They produce a game. We pay for the game. But in this case, we don't, so they have to make product elsewhere. So, what's Bungie to do? They produce a game. They come up with a premium currency. We buy the premium currency. They put that money toward big content drops (DLC), which we also buy. Then, they put THAT money towards more of both the things bought with premium currency AND the things in the big content drops. But what you're not considering is that a massive amount of Destiny 2's playerbase are high schoolers and young adults who either can't afford to spend much on Silver, or can't convince their parents to buy them much. Which leaves the majority of silver sales on the no-life adults that care more about a video game than their financial stability. So what ends up happening is Bungie, rather than making a profit, pretty much breaks even. Then, when they fail to make the game increasingly better, and instead stagnate because they don't have the budget to actually improve due to a lack of sales, those same no-life adults who care more about a video game than their financial stability decide to cut back on their spending, causing Bungie to take a small hit to their budget. Which means lower quality or less content in the next drop. Which makes more people stop spending. Which drops the quality/content further. It's a slope. Going free to play was the worst decision bungie could have ever made, because it led to this. Less people are buying Silver. Less people are buying DLCs. Bungie's budget is dropping. Future content can't improve without the proper amount of support from the community, when a game is free-to-play like Destiny 2 is. Unless bungie gets a bigger budget, they can't do better. If we don't actually support them through silver and DLC, they can't get a bigger budget without selling themselves to a bigger company or by partnering with a bigger company. They don't want to sell, because the other company might make Destiny into Anthem 2.0, or Warframe V2. They can't partner up because the companies they could partner with would much rather buy them outright. I don't buy Silver too often myself, because unless a cosmetic really is just THAT good, I don't think it's worth spending actual money on. But you can bet I'll be buying every DLC they come out with until I determine it's a lost cause, because I do believe in supporting something I enjoy, and I very much enjoy Destiny 2 and want to see it improve, so I support it where I can instead of boycotting it and demanding others do the same, like most of the people on here have done.
