A Bloodwitch Rises Part 2: The Beast

Rain arrived at the red forest unsure of just what would be on the other side of the impenetrable membrane of vegetation in front of her. A voice from Rain's head beckoned her forward, "Oh come on, Oh come on, Oh come on." Rain looked down at Ember, her only reminder of why she was here, and picked him up before closing her eyes, walking forward, ignoring her every instinct telling her to run, and piercing the veil of the forest. Rain could feel herself pass the threshold of the forest. The air around her became darker, warmer, and ever so visceral. As Rain opened her eyes she saw a beast looking her in the face, Rain froze for a moment then took a step back glancing behind her. The forest behind her extended infinitely. "Damn it!" As Rain looked at the beast again it had began to close the distance between them. Rain took in every detail of the beast. The creature almost looked like a hound. It was large, a bit taller than she was, tendrils of crimson energy reached from the beast and faded away. The beast was covered with gnashing pairs of spectral jaws, the phantom jaws all escaped the confines of the form of the beast and floated towards Rain for a few moments before they were displaced and appeared on the beast again only to repeat the process. Ember seemed uncomfortable in Rain's arms and looked at her as if he were pleading for her to get him away from this thing. Rain knew why, it gave off an oppressive aura and she shivered at the feeling it gave her. Rain used her free hand to press a button on the side of her boots as her eyes were locked with the beast's and then she made her move. As the beast lunged at Rain and Ember with its many snapping pairs of jaws Rain rolled to the side to avoid the jaws of oblivion, it was awkward with Ember in her arms, but she wasn't leaving him behind. Rain got up and Ran deeper into the forest while the beast turned and gave chase. Crimson thorns and scarlet twigs whipped Rain as she ran by them. She didn't care though, the sanguine creature behind her was all Rain could focus on. She saw a cave up ahead and considered it for a moment before deciding it was a stupid idea, it could be a dead end and the creature would be free to tear her and Ember apart. Ember made little squeaks as Rain ran and pushed his head into her chest as Rain tried desperately to outrun the horrific amalgam behind her. She knew it was made of pure hatred. And she knew she had to escape.
