Like many players, I like to customize my characters (I play all three classes), so the color of their armor is important. But the shaders we get always seem to have weird quirks.
Like KAIROS BLACK - which doesn't actually make anything on your armor black. Huh? Then why call it Black?
Or this season's new shader, JACARINA, which looks like it will just be shades of white, grey and black. That could be a cool look. But on many armor sets I previewed it on, a light blue shows up out of nowhere. Huh, again.
I could go through entire lists of shaders that produce strange end results, but you get the idea.
One thing I would also like to see is that the square that shows the sample of the four colors the shader has would consistently indicate where the colors will be applied. Like the bottom color will go on pants, the top color on headgear, the side colors on chest or arms, etc. But that isn't the case.
I tried to put a white helmet on my Titan, but thinking those shaders with white on the top probably indicated which would do that was no solution. The application of the white shade seemed pretty random. In the end, I had to try to use any shader that had any white in it to see which ones would apply it to helmets. And when ventually I moved my Titan to a green color scheme, I had to go through the same process for that too.
I know this isn't a big concern for some people, and in the grand scheme of things is just an irritant at most. But it seems like an irritant that Bungie could get rid of without too much effort. I mean it's not too much to ask that is a shader says it's Black that it actually is, or that it doesn't have mystery colors that come out of nowhere. So hopefully a revision of shaders will be part of the new game update when it finally releases in November.

Dude you speak my mind. I gave up on shaders long ago cause it is so crappy to get the colors you want where you want it. Also I hate f.e. on some exos some parts never really change the color f.e. on phoenix protocol the long tie in the middle always stays in that same color. I really would like they for once use sunsetting for something useful. SUNSET THE SHADER SYSTEM! Give us an color palette where we could use the colors we want. If you really need to implement that as a reward give us colors, glows, or color effects as a reward. Opinions may vary but this is mine.

It's worse than even that for some items. Some of them have areas that no color on the shader seems to change...until I try that 1 shader in 50 that will change it. For an example of this, if you have the "Thermal Runaway" sparrow, you can see that it is mostly dark grey, and any shader you apply seems to only change the rear of the body and the front skid. But, "The Mad Monk", "Melchizedek Bramble", and "Forty-Four Steel" will all change the front body as well. There may be more, but I didn't want to pull everything from Collections to try.

3 通の返信The jacarina shader is named after the blue-black grassquit (Volatinia jacarina) a small bird with a blue black body, black wings and tail feathers and white undersides to its wings. That's why the shader incorporates blue into the colour pallette. The more you know.... 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

1 返信Fun fact regarding the Kairos Black shader: Kairos is actually an ancient Egyptian word, which translates to "not". The more you know!

3 通の返信Do you think bungie could do something like an “inspect shader button” and it would show you all the colors in the shader, even the ones that are not show in the initial icon and what colors affect what type of material on the amor in question or do you that would be too complicated for the average player to grasp or handle?
-
3 通の返信Yes, I agree very annoying. They need to make shaders infinite use as well as give a rhyme or reason to the colors shown on shaders. Top wedge is primary, right wedge is secondary, bottom wedge is tertiary, left wedge is detail. Make it predictable.

4 通の返信How about they fix the shader system first. Apply the shader to all armor at once not individual pieces.
-
1 返信The armor sets are way too complicated for the shader icon to ever accurately display how the colors are going to be applied. It's not as simple as one color goes on each piece. Sometimes 3 different colors go on one armor piece.

27 通の返信Correct me if I'm wrong....but I heard from a friend/clammate that all shaders tend to have 6 total colors to them, but the preview will only display 4 of them. Why Bungo does this? I dunno lol And I feel your pain, especially with Amethyst Veil. You just want a cool black shader for your armor and suddenly there is indigo in it.

Corrick IIにより編集済み: 8/8/2020 4:46:05 PMYou’re not the only one. There are a lot of shaders with misleading icons, and most shaders don’t sit the way I want them to on the character. If Bungie ever decides to take customization seriously they’ll take a hard look at the shader system and allow us to do things that might help ease the frustration, like rotating shader colors or applying colors we want to specific portions of the color mask. Given their priorities lately I doubt we’ll see that anytime soon.

YoDwarfにより編集済み: 8/8/2020 3:46:05 PMSkele-Ghaul is my go to shader since it was released since it has a nice balance of black and copper colors which go together well. However as the post suggests, it also has an irrelevant display, it has green on its icon, but it is nowhere to be found on armor or weapons.
