Sunsetting weapons will make them obsolete in MOST of the game. Not just Raids, Trials, IB.
All seasonal content is light DEPENDENT. So when new seasons drop, and new activities, and the activities that linger, you will HAVE to use gear that gives you the highest EFFECTIVE light possible.
So no, you won't be using your sunset gear in "most" of the game.
They should sunset vendor, and world drop gear to make room for new vendor and world drop gear. They should not sunset ANYTHING that required a quest or time investment to acquire.
As described it is an exercise in stupidity.
**Edit**
The one thing people should consider: It doesn't need to be this way.
World drops, are the gear that should be rotated in and out. Banshee, Zavala, Shax... That is where you pad the loot pool, update it annually, sunset the old gear, keep the game fresh.
Seasonal gear, quest gear, pinnacles... This gear should not have a power cap. This gear is not just random. People actually invest time in it. So the seasonal/quest gear needs to be unique. Give people a reason to use one thing over another.
As presented, all they are doing is the same thing they always do. Controlling player choice to cover up a lack of creativity.

1 返信They said that in D1 going into Taken king too, but no one used year 1 weapons after that. I remember in the first story mission I got a green drop higher level than my 170 fatebringer. People only used year 1 weapons in pvp because they were actually better specifically shotguns and snipers. Taken king gave us things like a god rolled conspiracy theory from a quest and that one 1k stare from a quest but nothing beat a god rolled matador or a House of wolves variant of felwinters or a Her benevolence.

1 返信What alot of those people stat that it just won't be usable in End game forget one thing... If Destiny IS a MMO THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF IT NOT DOING THE END GAME.

2 通の返信What about raids? are the weapons gonna drop with a capped light level? what is the point of doing them then? I was kinda warming up to the weapons but the armor was a low blow because we are gonna have to grind out Masterwork materials all the time now.

3 通の返信"sunsetting gear will affect seasonal content" I have a fix for that, don't buy the seasons...

2 通の返信Leviathan, spire of stars, eater of worlds, crown of sorrow, scourge of the past, black armory forges, managerie, any planet for patrol, vanguard strikes, crucible, comp, gambit, gambit prime, and reckoning. Those are all the activities you can use old gear in...... Here is the issue. Vanguard strikes, crucible, gambit/gambit prime are going to be only things worth doing out of all those activities...... that’s also if gambit/gambit prime is gonna get new weapons..... that’s also if vanguard strikes remains at 750 light because if they update it which happens often especially on big yearly dlc’s it will leave old loot behind. Lastly as for crucible if you get used to using certain weapons it will only end up biting your ass if you were to try Trials(if it ever gets to a better state). The reason I say that these are the only things worth doing is pretty simple.... why would you grind managerie when every weapon and armor in its loot pool can’t reach max light........ all of those activities are going to get left behind along with all the sunset weapons and armor. The ONLY way Bungie can avoid that is to give each and every one of these activities new loot pools and update the game modes....... with their track record this is not going to happen.

Bungie... Exposed. No matter how wordy they make the TWAB, the majority of the community is not ignorant and knows exactly what is going on... Laziness. There had better a s h i t ton of new content in terms of weapons and armor if you stick with this sunsetting BS, but we know you’re not capable... Prove us wrong.

3 通の返信RopeAdopeにより編集済み: 5/18/2020 8:01:40 AMHas anyone else noticed that the Felshot quest is bugged? I ask because all of the proponents of reskins are using the justification that we’ll get new cool “stuff”. Does this help? The fact that they can’t even get all the steps of a weapon quest to work properly? Do y’all not see how ridiculous that excuse is now? It’s a quest step. That doesn’t work. For a legendary weapon. From D1. And Bungo-and-the-Pets want to pit out all new exciting gear to grind for with new e citing perks and mods. And they can’t even make this one weapon quest work like it’s supposed to. Edit: I thought this debacle needed its own posting but it got buried almost instantly

7 通の返信All weapons you currently own will continue to be useful in all current activities in the game with the exception of Trials, Iron Banner, and Legend+ activities. You will be able to play all core activities with your exact same loadout if you wish. You will be able to play all existing raids and melt them just as you can today. For 90% of the game, your weapons will continue to stay relevant. Where new weapons will be needed is content moving forward where no meta is set. This means trying new weapon combinations to see what works well (because I don't know about you, I'm getting pretty tired of Mountaintop and Recluse continuing to remain glued to my guardian). Weapon retirement allows us to create new metas moving, which we will, we always do. I think where people are overreacting is that they think weapon retirement will make us less powerful because it is essentially a nerf to our guardian. Let me give you an example of why I think this is an overreaction. Currently, if you go into the Leviathan raid with a LFG group, you can easily melt Calus in 1-2 plates (not phases, plates). If we were required to change weapons for this raid causing us to consistently need to 2 phase the boss, that would be an issue because we are used to melting the boss. However, if a new raid were released with a similar boss and it required 2-3 phases worth of damage, we would not see this as an issue because we are not used to the boss melt. Make sense?

My sunsetting solution: There has been a lot of disputes over the topic of weapon and armor sun setting, and I have reached a potential solution that may lessen the extremes of it. Each account should be awarded a mod socket for a primary, secondary, and heavy weapon. Once equipped, the gun can be infused up in light to whatever the max of that given season is. This mod socket cannot be removed unless the user dismantles that gun. For example, I have a god roll beloved and I would love to keep it for the foreseeable future. Instead of having a targeting adjuster mod on it, I will be forced to put this anti sunset mod on it in order for it to stay relevant in high light level activities. If I wanted to put the anti sunset mod on a mindbenders ambition, I would need to dismantle my beloved in order to do so. This solution would encourage people to use new guns because only those will not be subject to the anti sunset mod. The new guns would have an advantage over there predecessor because they would have valuable mods that can only be attached to them. For example, overload rounds and backup mag mods would only be able to be used on new guns, therefore makeing them the preferred weapon of usage. This would create a new gun economy in destiny where new weapons certainly have their advantages, but users of a long time gun would not have to delete their favorite weapons as they would have otherwise become irrelevant.

Sunsetting weapons? Doesn't really bother me. The meta changes often, that forces you to change your loadout often. This hasn't really changed any since D1. BUT Have you ever spent your time farming/grinding armor with stats you want? Spent time and materials to upgrade all that armor(plus the exotic) to max? This is the issue alot of people have. Sunsetting armor is huge deal breaker for me and others.

2 通の返信They shouldn't sunset randomly rolled gear tbh. The time investment in those is potentially worse than quest ones

2 通の返信You forgot sunsetting armor. I’m okay with the weapons, becuase they’ll be new ones, even if it has the same rolls, but armor sunsetting? It’s harder to get good rolls on armor, since they almost never drop, at least for me. And even then, it’s always 55, rarely above 60. I got lucky with like 7 pieces before.

5 通の返信LostAscendantにより編集済み: 5/18/2020 1:46:13 PMTo a certain degree, however people usually do not bring the weapons up that they will eventually keep, they avoid the cost of upgrading that weapon till they get to the light that is useful. So unless you are upgrading your weapon every light level up it makes no difference. The only weapons I usually bring with me are exotics and they aint changing. Everything else usually gets replaced with the latest like my go to auto is now seraph. I ran banner the other day with a 750 mark to drop me from 1032 light to 1002 to get the kill higher light people bounty done quicker, it made little difference. Its a mole hill, like every other "community issue" you are all making it in to mountains when the likelihood is it will make little difference either way. I've no idea why the "community" or bungo is bothered either way.

1 返信Ok what about my forge, gambit prime, and menagerie gear. Bungie never said anything about those weapons being exempt from retirement. Come to think of it, they only mentioned last wish and garden of salvation gear getting exempt. No scourge of the past, crown of sorrow or laviathen gear getting exempt. That’s a lot of raids and activities Bungie is making obsolete with this change. And they say that they want to bring back aspiration to the game.
