You really want to try to tell us THIS isn't going to end terribly? The writing's on the wall in gigantic bold typeface that anyone can see from anywhere at any distance.

  • Scrapping old weapons via 9 month roatation lets Bungie bring in new weapons into the Legendary pool, that's miles better than having a bunch of useless weapons while everyone uses the same weapons.

Um, this is Bungie and Luke Smith telling us point blank they're consciously choosing any given weapon meta, assuming they'll drive engagement by making that meta any given season's "meaningful" pursuit, and shafting you in activities if other people have that meta and you don't, thereby creating a situation in which suddenly everyone is only able to use that meta if they want to do anything. IE: Season of the sidearms, season of the pulse rifle, season of the scout rifle, so on, and so on. It's going to create a situation of people using the same weapons like hasn't been seen since the crucible in D1 was nothing but Thorn or No Land Beyond. Explain to me how that makes you want to play the game more.

  • Where did they say they wouldn't have the same range of weapon types they have now?

  • I didnt say that. His statements combined with what those of us who've played since D1 have seen, combined with all the nerfs and updates suggest is that they're going to decide what weapons promote their version of balance, they'll make an intentional meta, and anything outside that will no longer be viable. They're going to make the playing field even by limiting it.

  • I only played D1 for 1500 hours. I see no reason to believe that there will be any changes to how the meta is established. You're jumping to a conclusion before we even see what they have in mind.

Sure, I'm drawing a conclusion, but I don't think I'm pulling that totally out of thin air, and yeah the meta is kind of cursory to what I'm actually trying to say. My comment on the meta is a more a of what if, and I really do think things are looking like they could stack up so Bungie says: "This season is all about trace rifles (which I do like by the way). We know no one ever uses them. If you want to become legend this season, you'll have to!" I could dig that being limited to specific endgame content or Trials, because it adds a fresh wild card element, but not the entire structure of the game. So to keep it focused on PVPV (because the unspoken element of all this right now is that it seems to be related to PVP): If he's just talking about specific guns like recluse, for instance, than sure: PVP at least regularly seems to deal with one weapon that everyone wants to chase and then uses all the time because it's a pinnacle weapon and they have an advantage with or in theory have an advantage with. I have recluse. It's cool I got it, but I never use it because I suck with SMGs. I do better with bows and hand cannons. Maybe players who don't really care about the "best" guns are in the minority. Smith is talking about all legendary weapons, not pinnacle legendaries. We've already kind of seen this scenario play out in a different way: In new DLC, suddenly a ton of players are back on rare weapons and gear because it has better stats and then they earn new ones. As a fellow D1 oldie, you'll also remember when they had level caps on weapons. I hated it because there were guns and gear I just liked better. Not because they were the "best" but because they were what I liked using. I'm all for earning new loot, but I don't want to HAVE to use it just because it's "better"

  • I think he's talking about a vision for the evolution of the game. A way to get back to the place where we had the "aspirations" he referred to. They seem to be looking for a way to make rewards meaningful again in the context of the related activities. Sort of like trimming a bush allows the flowers to bloom. Although he doesn't come right out and say it, it seems clear he recognizes they've headed down the wrong path. He does mention some specific areas where they've made mistakes. I believe he sincerely wants to make the game great and recognizes some serious changes are needed. He was pretty vague about specifics, but I think we'll be able to get a general idea about the direction they're taking in Season 10. I'm cautiously optimistic and I can't wait to see how things play out.

  • I mean I like the game enough I have no intention of going anywhere. The only thing that would really end it for me is if gear is completely locked away, unless they can tap back into some of those designs and elements we always got excited for enough that I don't care. Where I'm not really seeing that is in how much he talked about what the development team can't do and expand on. Until the last couple go rounds in which they stopped doing it, I was always super stoked to see what the new iron banner set was going to look like. I always dig the new exotics even if I don't end up acquiring them or using them. For me it's not resistance to what's new, but the current vagueness. Yeah, he obviously cares about the franchise. I doubt he'd play it as much as he makes it sound like if he didn't. I did think he tapped into a lot of issues that resonate with the player base. What's got people dissatisfied is the way the solution looks. The player base seems to be largely of the mindset that the game is all about getting loot that's fun and looks cool. I think Bungie has a clear vision for the game, but from what he wrote, I'm not sure if Luke Smith is even sure what the game is all about right now.

  • This forum doesn't represent the player base. And some of the regulars here don't even play. Some of the worst and stupidest behavior I've seen from this community happens right here. It's the same names over and over. I don't know if it's an age thing or what. It doesn't seem to matter if what they say is civil, or factual, or even logical. There are certainly some folks here who are sincere and well meaning, but the low average quality of the reasoning doesn't do them any favors. And some of these people have absolutely got to get over the idea that "the community" should have to ask for something before the devlopers do it. They act like they think the game came out of nowhere and the developers are people just like them who somehow lucked into a job.

  • I also think there's a simpler way to communicate what I think about of peole aren't happy with on the weapon change: In theory bungie should be dropping new weapons and armor we get excited about using. Luke Smith pretty much said the weapon ecosystem no longer supports new weapons that are any good, so he's asking us to get excited about losing something rather tha gaining something and to trust their vision at a time a lot of people seem not to. As far as trials goes I actually want to play and dont really care about the issues people are raising. As much as I like the old gear It would have been nice to see some new gear though; however we dobt actually know there wont be any

  • He's talking about guns lasting for 3 or 4 seasons, which is about the time frame for making major changes to the game. That's long enough to make chasing loot worthwhile while avoiding getting too bogged down in old content. I think the Artifact being enabled in Trials might be a huge mistake. I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

  • Yeah that's a point people are overlooking. As I've said elsewhere though: If I can use what I want and there are new weapons that really have added value cool. If they're actually locking it shelving weapons that's not cool. It's hard to tell what he meant from the way he worded things. Yeah could be, but with it coming back at a season reset everyone's going to start on equal footing. I didnt see anything about whether or not they're planning to match via skill/ll etc

  • Trials used to be connection based until about the 4th round and then card based. Or at least that's what I've heard. It's never been my thing, but I'll probably give it a try. I'm one of the people feeling like things are a little stale right now.

  • Oh I've launched a harsh post or two myself, but I totally agree seeing all the eff Bungie Bungie is awful gets old and the forum has turned into an orc stronghold. Still, I see peole express frustration with stuff more lately on other platforms.
