What’s your opinion?
oooooh, you thought this was a poll about the game Destiny? No, we don’t talk about that here, this is offtopic. Interested on your opinion though, there is some scientific data to support both.
Edit: so I’ve been watching the poll bounce around near the 25% marker. That interesting, because I think there is good support for that idea. I mean there seems to be no denying that some of us are destined to have to have things happen to us. ie, bad parents, illnesses, born into money. But does that count? I really don’t know, anyone have a strong opinion on this?

3 通の返信I believe fate is a constant, we will all die eventually, the universe itself is against us. But how our fate plays out is up to us, we will die, but we can die on our own terms. Most people would to think that means suicide, but it also means extending our life and escaping death with medicine, things such as what we leave behind, dying a guilty man in prison or a man who had no regrets in life.

1 返信Life is like the best cyoa game ever created, there are infinite possibilities but they're all technically predetermined. That's how we have free will but God still knows what could happen.

2 通の返信See, I can't vote. I feel that there is a predetermined future but we are still choosing it

1 返信I mean, I'm kinda in the middle, there is a destiny that's set, but we can break the mold and do our own thing if we so chose.

If you contained the sum of all knowledge in the universe, you could predict exactly what people would do and say (like Johnathan Joestar on pandimensional crack) and accurately know anything that has, is, or will be happening. However, this is arguably not destiny. It is not controlled by fate. It is simply the butterfly affect in which events affect each other and cause things to happen. Even the firing of our own neurons have a pattern.

1 返信I don’t believe in destiny. The GOAL is heaven, but my actions will determines whether or not I attain it.
Sorry, all out of salt.
3 通の返信We have free will, but the future is set... if that makes sense. Basically if someone appeared trying to change time, their history books would be the exact same because their influence was always present.
we can’t go back and kill Hitler sooner because he had not died sooner. (Bill and Ted)
2 通の返信Caggusにより編集済み: 10/8/2019 11:16:08 PMI know this was a bait post but still, I wanna talk about it because it’s an interesting topic. As I am not religious, I don’t believe in a set fate or destiny. At least the kind that stuff like Final Destination shows where the characters may have avoided their fate temporarily but it was always to die at specific times. I don’t believe a destiny is created for every last person on this planet. I think people carve out their own destiny by the actions they do and the things they say. Also to add on top of it; maybe it’s better that we don’t know the real answer, people would be driven to suicide knowing their life will end on one specific point or go in one way no matter what they want to do. For some the idea of shaping their own destiny would be incredible but for some it could be too overwhelming and they might feel like they have no place in the world. All in all, some things are best left unanswered I guess.

2 通の返信One Shot Tedにより編集済み: 10/8/2019 8:58:00 PMReality is somewhere in between the two. While we have the power to make our own choices and steer our lives in the general direction of our choosing, many uncontrollable factors limit the outcomes we have available. Things like the location you're born in, the people around you, and the body you happen to exist in can present challenges that are not within reason for most people to surmount. However, a select few people are able to overcome these limitations with a combination of persistence, talent, and extremely good luck. For example, let's say you're born in Kenya and you have a condition that renders your lower body immobile. Your family has no money to properly support you, and you can't simply get up and go somewhere that has better opportunities for the physically handicapped. Most people would simply be unable to change that situation, and would have to live out their lives in poverty. However, let's presume that you're really good at learning and practicing medical techniques. Knowing this, you practice your trade constantly, treating the sick and injured in your village with whatever means are available to you. After a while, you become the person to see if you need medical assistance. Then, one day, a humanitarian group from America happens to fly out to your region to provide relief for the hungry and injured. They happen to notice your talents and offer you a job based in America that pays more than you could have ever dreamed of in a 3rd world country. Assuming you choose to take the job, you've managed to overcome what would have been insurmountable odds for other people. If you did not have the natural aptitude for your trade, this would not have happened. If you had not chosen to take your talents and hone them through constant practice, this would not have happened. If that travelling group had chosen to visit another third world country, this would not have happened. People make their lives not by "destiny" or willpower alone, but by a combination of choices and circumstance.
