Destiny 2 / New Light compatibility
Hello!
I recently got back into video gaming and decided to pick up where I left off. I bought the Forsaken and the Annual Pass.
Now, I find out that there is a new Free-to-Play version of the game coming out, New Light, and you will just be buying expansions (particularly, Shadowkeep).
I want to know how it all comes together.
Does my copy of the game lose support? In other words, do I need to get the Free to Play (and toss away my disc?) What about my expansions?
If I want to play with Xbox/PC/PS4 players, is it only if I launch the F2P version?
... If there is an article that covers all this, let me know. I can't find anything just that it changes everything.

On top of what Dragon said if you own D2 on disc you will have to uninstall it and reinstall with New Light as the disc contains your base game licence and New Light will have a built in digital one. This will allow you to throw away that disc (or use it as a cup coaster) and do not worry about your characters as they are saved on Bungie servers not your system.

Depending on the console's requirements, in order to gain the full features, it may require you to uninstall the disc's installation and then install the New Light digital version of Destiny 2, but it is still the same game and you'll have the same characters, etc. Your Forsaken & Forsaken: Annual Pass licenses are still fine, but keep in mind that if you play on a platform that you don't own it on, then you will not be able to access that content's main features (quests, Raids, etc). So if you intend to play Forsaken on multiple platforms, you'll need to buy it for each platform you intend to play on. The same goes for Shadowkeep. The New Light product is not a separate game for the sake of gameplay and the like, it's just a bundle purchase (It's effectively the same as the Deluxe version of Destiny 2, as that came with Destiny 2 and the Expansion Pass, which was Curse of Osiris and Warmind). It will not be a separate set of achievements/trophies or be a different game for the sake of matchmaking and the like.
