When I did all my Gambit matches while I was getting the armor, I don't remember having any person AFKed. Seems that I was pretty lucky

I've had it happen plenty on Xbox One during my one grind. I messaged one Player to either pull their weight or leave, to which they replied "If you wanna win so bad just get good and carry me" so I just reported the dude and finished the game. Whatever

I did 30 back to back Gambit matches last weekend to complete that requirement on all three characters. Same as you I never once ran into an AFK player. I play on PlayStation and I suspect the AFK problem is more of a PC problem due to the ability to have a macro that can circumnavigate the idle detection.
