Forum Feedback

Hey all, Pinning this to the Destiny 2 forum, as I'm currently looking through some feedback on our forums and structure. I recently did a quick tweet asking players who may not visit the forums here on Bungie.net some questions, as I'd love to make this place more appealing for the broad community. Now, I'm looking for feedback from those who are on here more frequently, namely you! This isn't a question of what we can do better in terms of making in-game changes to Destiny 2. My goals here are to get some thoughts from you on the current state of our forums. If you could answer the following, it'd be much appreciated.
• What do you find most important to your browsing experience? • Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc) • What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement?
• • What do you find most important to your browsing experience? On this site, info about the game, future events, bugs, glitches, cheese and general help/tips. • Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc) My clan use Discord for all comms. A lot more freedom there, than on here. I use Bungie.net for info when I can get past the nasty stuff. • What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement? Same old request really. Daily comms from Bungie with info on the game and any other discussions. Less ass hats on here would be good, but hey its the internet so I have to accept them. Ninja's are just no good. Probably not them, but suspect they are ruled by an out dated iron fist set of rules. Give us more functions, Avatars for example. Let us stamp our own personality on our profiles etc. Bring back our medal collection that is viewable in our profile.

  • *Add a new wave of monitors and mentors. A lot of these people are inactive. New faces are a good thing *create a new role of veterans who have been on these forums for 9+ years. They are like mentors but also engage with the community in terms of Sherpas and tips and tricks to become legend. Example: The guy who posts the weekly reset information. *make the CoC more clear and not have the hidden CoC that a ninja posted years ago. Then again, not everyone reads so being trigger happy as a ninja may turn a user away bc OP feels like it’s heavily monitored and bans are very common. *improve #help with faster solutions then waiting around for a response by the community or the help team at Bungie. Maybe a FAQ list? *make forums easily accessible on the companion app *memes. Or top 10 kills by the architect clips. Gets the community engaged with laughter and funny moments *community managers AMA. Not everyone knows who you are. And not everyone has a Twitter. *speaking of Twitter, any announcements by Bungie about the game or future content should be posted here too. If you are just going to use Twitter/reddit then why come here? Forums can be active if Bungie is active too. Not just reply on a few posts every once in a while. *release some emblem codes on here. Maybe hide the codes in a few threads so the community has to put it together. Helps get traffic in here I know that I can be a troll and shit post but I enjoy this game and I’m glad to be here.

    • • What do you find most important to your browsing experience? Simple, easy to see and understand information. I almost exclusively use the general Destiny thread and rarely stray. I'd like the option to set preferences, for example I'd rather see 'latest' posts than 'trending' and although its not much effort to change it each time I'd rather not. "Effortless" is what you should be aiming for. • Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc) Forums. I have a personal hatred for Twitter but will check the Bungie Help Twitter for downtime info. I believe your focus should be here, in the past you've given exclusive reveals (images, info etc) to Instagram, Twitter and even other gaming news websites, while this could be good to draw people here I don't feel you made enough of those opportunities. I understand the appeal of selling exclusives and usage data but I'm hoping it was Activision pushing that. This is your home and should always be the first place we find new info about your games. • What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement? Better moderation (it seems to me some mods and mentors only took the positions for prestige), less fear of combining threads and deleting duplicates. This whole place needs a decent purge, I know its a pain but it needs doing. Better communication, in the times of Shishka, Urk etc. those guys were not afraid to come and converse with the community, while I appreciate Cozmo and DMG checking in to let us know "we're listening" it would be nice to actually engage and feel like we are all together. It would be so much more beneficial to you guys in the long run. How about some Q&A's? It would be nice to hear you guys talk about the issues Destiny faced in production, rather than just the collated rumours we've had from other sources. Tell us how much of a pain it was to re-boot the sequel, change the story of D1 so close to release, how Luke Smith felt about the whole "throw money at screen" incident. More clarity and more honesty will breed more loyalty and compassion. Don't forget your players are people, and thanks to Halo the average gamer age is perhaps a little higher than you think.

      • What do you find most important to your browsing experience? Getting an idea of what is being talked about. All pinned Bungie posts. Posts where Bungie has replied (you should have an option when you do comment on the posts to "skip to Bungie comment") I really like reading those. • Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc) Bungie.net forums for general engagement (airing grievances). Reddit for focused help or comments to other guardians if they are struggling or need advice. • What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement? Provide more stats on how the game is doing in general. At the end of vanilla you provided stats of raid completions, claymore completion, even shaders deleted. Having a dedicated page like that is always nice to see and makes things more transparent. Having the stats can lead to more constructive feedback on the forums and encourage good debate. You don't have to put population numbers in and stuff like that because at the end of the day those who are playing like the game. You should then have a separate page for weapon usage stats. From here the community can see what is being underused and rather than having a back and fourth nerf/buff debate with our usual weapons of choice. Lets get the stats on the most underused so we can debate how we can make them better. I remember the days when I used to run around in D1 with an iron wreath d. Those days are dead and gone and I wouldn't bat an eyelid at sidearms. Having the stats would add transparency and lead to more focused and engaging debate.

    • I browse this forum mainly for information about the game, the story, tips, changes, etc. This is my first video game and have been playing for a year and a bit. Veterans don’t understand how much they take for granted. Bungie the same. Sometimes it is frustrating all the whining and rudeness, some guardians are so condescending. However, sometimes I find posts or comments with great tips or explanations. This I would like to see more. Bungie I think that you should be a little louder, more involved. For instance, the core issue. Many were so rude, few gave a reasonable explanation. Now, you Bungie made cores a lot more available, but still so much complaining. Bungie you should speak up and say to those post, here is a happy medium. My point, more interaction. Also if there was an area with real feedback about the game, with tips, more welcoming to new guardians. For instance, PvP as is, is for veterans or super good players, blueberries like me feel excluded, what is Bungie position? can guardians stop being condescending? How can Bungie and veterans bring newbies into the community. Many new players end up leaving cause destiny is like a very elitist game. PvP impossible, hard to find people for raids, forums toxic and condescending. Instead would like to see more positive comments, if there is a problem a reasonable explanation as for why and possible solutions.

Sorting is important. 2) Forums first. Clan discord second. I don’t think Reddit, Twitter, Twitch, or YouTube comments section are worth trying to use for discussion. Reddit mostly because of its moderators. 3) First and foremost the Moderator role needs to be reviewed and updated. It needs to be consistent and it needs to be as basic as possible. Secondly more interaction with developers would go a long way towards getting more discussions to happen on the forums. Even more interaction with the CMs would help. Third you actually need to drive users to the forums. If a CM is going to tweet about a topic they should make a post on the forum and link to it from the tweet. By mainly communicating with the community through other platforms the forums are not considered a good place to have a conversation about the game. You could also add a line to the “this week” and “next week” in game pop-ups about discussing it on the forums.

Maybe you could actually hire a person that specializes in UX/UI for the web. I mean, lulz. If you're going to Twitter to ask their users what to do with your forums and websites, then your web team for this site has grossly failed you a hundredfold. I'd suggest you find a capable web team. One with a proper UX/UI designer. I'm sorry, but I just have to add I'm shocked by this. To be blunt it makes your team look as if you have no clue what you're doing at all... your web team (UX/UI person specifically) should have been doing this research all along! Wt...f.

        • Honestly you guys are failing as mediators for the forms. You do not address issues talked about in the post's enough. When you do address issues most the time it is very vague. Or nonspecific to when something will be fixed or changed. This should feel like a place to come and have all questions answered pertaining to Destiny. What my experiences have been on your forums is, when I say my opinion it gets bashed by the community or ignored by all. This honestly feels more like a failed system because you guys are failing as admins.

        • Seriously?! Like, haven’t you been reading the forums the past 3-4 months?! As “community manager,” you should know damn well what the community has been talking about all this damn time. And if you don’t know, I suggest you resign from your post. Because, obviou-blam!-ingly, you’ve not been listening.

            • A proper division of the forums (PvE / PvP / PvPvE and General), weekly post from admin asking for specific feedback / issues, monthly polls to see how an aspect / implementation / feature is doing, pinned topics should be resumed and locked once a conclusion / consensus is reached.

              • I find Bungie responses to community questions the most important aspect of my browsing experience. I generally find that there's more information from Bungie employees located in places that are NOT the Bungie Forums. For some reason you guys show way more love to twitter and reddit than you do to these forums. It's not very cool. I'd like to see more presence from Bungie employees/developers on these forums. I feel that we on these forums get ignored a lot and there's only so much "we're listening keep the feed back coming in" that we can take before we call BS and the player population goes through another dip. Also why bother banning people for asking who the F asked you to change the shader icons? It's not like this is the place to get any meaningful info on future developments. Asking for a friend...
• What do you find most important to your browsing experience?
Once upon a time here, the community. The trolls have gotten to rule the roost for so long, that's not really what it used to be. Still visit the forums daily to see how people are experiencing the game though.
• Do you find yourself frequently engaging with forums, or more often browsing associated media/group messaging apps for information/discussion? (Think Twitter, Discord, Youtube, etc)
I don't post on here very much anymore outside of replies to posts here and there because forever getting shit on by the same people and called a "Bungie -blam!-" endlessly with no consequences for those doing it makes posting not really enjoyable. It's hard to give constructive feedback to better the game when every post's replies are dominated by personal attacks endlessly bumped to the top and muting people doesn't stop them from turning posts into shit-shows, it just stops you from seeing what they're spreading to everyone else.
• What changes would you like to see that would make the Bungie.net forums a more welcoming place for community engagement?
Moderation that doesn't empower the lowest common denominator and let bnet serve as a right-wing breeding ground would be a great start. The fact that someone can make hate posts against the LGBT community and not have the posts removed or get banned, but calling them out for being assholes does get a ban says a lot about moderation here. The code of conduct has been schizophrenically enforced for years and what is CLEARLY defined as harassment in your own Guidelines is more often than not a-ok with your mods. The second we have enough and defend ourselves, it's insta-ban though. You did improve things when you fixed the forums to actually require playing D2, but there are a ton of farm accounts that are here just to be shit-disturbers. It's also nice that in D2 Y2 you all finally fixed the mute function to where it actually mutes people on the app. That said you all need to institute a full block feature. It's absolutely garbage that in 2019 with all the known issues and real world consequences of online hate and harassment, that you all don't do everything you can to keep your community safe from bullshit. The fact that a group that's existed on these forums who met off-site to plot attacks against specific forum community members and went so far as to plan swatting attacks were never able to be blocked and instead were allowed to stalk and harass with impunity was and is bullshit. The fact that you all let someone who got banned for making child molestations comments in a thread for a community raid day not only stay on the forums, but let them make a post petitioning that myself and our community podcast be banned from bnet and you all to this day haven't taken it down is bullshit. I appreciate every opportunity the studio has given me and I actually had hoped to discuss the forums with you, Coz and DeeJ at the first Summit, but you were sick and DeeJ was always locked in conversations when I tried to engage him. Next, you already know my thoughts on this, but I still believe you and Coz should be more active here. I appreciate what you both do for the community and know you're only allowed to say so much in regards to studio plans, but you're both incredibly active on Twitter and it would be really cool and mean a lot to the community here to have even a quarter of that interaction here. It would also go a long way to ending the Studio 54 vibe where there's the in crowd who you all constantly interact with and then all the rest of the community standing outside hoping to be seen or heard. You both should be regular contributors on here and not just the drive-by "we'll take your feedback to the devs". And last but not least, I've been suggesting this for years now, but it would be really nice to see you all have community Q&A days on the forums every so often where studio devs spend a day answering questions and interacting with the everyday community. The summits are cool and more so when it's new players and everyday players vs a council of influencers that get to speak for everyone else, but it would be incredibly easy to give the everyday player a chance to be heard more by doing Q&As. And the studio did it in D1 Y1 for Crucible Feedback. Thank you for taking time to post this and for actively looking for ways to improve bnet. Have a great day. Edit: also it's great Shackleshotgun made the Destiny Roundup site, but that content should've been integrated into bnet years ago.

Having thumbs up give exp and then once you level you can have a badge or a icon, evolve with power light xD This will encourage giving out ideas being creative and friendly to everyone, this is what a true guardian should do 😁
