The quests that have pvp in them, like the Ace of Spades, have pvp in them because of the history of the weapon or the wielder. It's fitting that Ace requires both crucible and gambit because of Cayde's back story. It's a similar story with the other pvp linked exotics. If you check the lore, it's right in there as to why.

  • No, Ace required you to play Gambit, Strikes, and Crucible because those are the modes that are available. It definitely wasn't because of lore the ultimate step was to fight a bunch of nameless Hive in a story mission.

  • Funny you should mention it. That mission with the nameless hive enemies (Ace in the hole) is loaded with lore trinkets, not the least being Cayde's claim to have invented Gambit in the first place. I do get your point though. Some of bungie's quests do feel somewhat forced and manufactured. As an example, requiring taken blight essence to repair a black armory forge will never make sense to me. That's straight up ignoring the lore side of the game and simply choosing which hoops they want the players to jump through.

Any lore gained from Ace in the Hole is taken from the messages in the various chests. These messages have zero relevance to the location they were found. Bungie had a map they could reuse that most people forgot about. They could have been found on the back of a playing card in the Tower and it would not change the context of any of that information. I would argue some of them actually make less sense being located in the deepest depths of the Titan Archology considering the people they were supposed to be found by.

  • I wholly agree with you there. That mission is entirely contrived and it would have made more sense to have the ten different tapes in more appropriate locations similar to the Drifter's seven tapes in the allegiance quest. But if the question is why does the Ace of Spades quest include gambit and crucible I believe the answer to be because Cayde invented gambit and reinvented the crucible. Lore wise the quest suits the history of the gun and its owner.
