Private groups haven't received a good/beneficial update since before 2013, probably. All of the updates to private groups in recent years just made them more irrelevant. Here's some examples: -When Destiny 1 launched, there was a site update that limited the amount of private groups that a user can join to 10. Anyone who was a member of more than 10 groups would have to leave a bunch of groups in order to join new groups or a clan (in D1, private groups and clans were combined). Many active private groups completely died after that update because so many people were forced to leave a bunch of groups just so they could join a clan in D1. -There was a site update that took away our ability to post threads in private groups on the mobile app. Now we are limited to only the group wall. The group wall is nice, but it would be better if we were able to access the forum aspect of private groups on the mobile app as well. -Moderator tools and the power to promote people to new titles were taken away. -We can't even access or look at private groups on the mobile app. I could come up with more examples, but my point is that all of the updates to private groups in the past several years have negatively impacted them. Private groups were awesome before the January 2009 "bungie.next" update, but now I feel like most people in the bungie.net community don't even know they exist. I think private groups could become useful again if they got a good update or two, starting with mobile app accessibility.
