That's why the bounties and spider exist. I really wanna use this gun but I don't have the 3 enhancement cores to level it up. They're very easily purchasable. And if you don't have the legendary shards (which most of us do) they can be acquired via other means like bounties

How is that ? A story and a 640 bounty will get you to a level that will allow you to do anything in this game but tier3, maybe 2 reckoning, a 100k nightfall maybe and perhaps iron banner. At 640 you can do all raids, pretty much all milestones, pretty much all crucible, forges and all gambit. You can utilize any of your fav weapons for that, anything else you can put in your vault and it will still increment your light for better drops. If that's a poor game experience then you are playing the wrong game.

I agree, I often find myself in the vault infusing things because of the great probability of duplicate drops, for glimmer. Especially on my second and third characters. I infuse a little more with my main toon because he’s the one that’s supposed to be the bada$$. This being said, for me the biggest issue with cores is the cost to MW. I have a hard time with this aspect because even though I’m not struggling with cores, I’m not swimming either. I do think that more opportunity for cores isn’t the best option. I think something that would help is an adjustment to cost when infusing. If the 680 hands I’m using to infuse into my 660 hands has a higher MW, I should be either given a core credit so to say or the 660 hands not only become a 680 they also absorb the additional MW value. Cost could stay high but you’d get a value based on the fodder.
