As the last two recent Narrative Previews shows, the Drifter has been up to some rather unsavory activity behind the scenes. In The Reckoning, we see Drifter discussing the aftermath of a test run of Gambit Prime with a long time associate and Veteran of the Great Ahamkara Hunt, the Titan Joxer. The results were horrible, resulting in the permanent casualties of three separate Guardians at the hands of the match’s Primeval. The two also discussed the performance of the new specialized armor set as well as Drifter’s plans to distribute engram specs to those interested in building their own. Which is fitting for the Drifter, providing the bare minimum and letting the Guardians do the rest. At the end of the meeting, Joxer walks away blaming the Drifter for the deaths of those three Guardians, but is given their pay and then some to keep quiet about this situation to the Vanguard.
In the Praxic Order Narrative Preview, it appears that Joxer has kept good on his silence, and no permanent Guardian deaths have been reported to the Vanguard. As well as this, it appears that the Drifter has taken to spying on Consensus meetings regarding disciplinary actions directed towards him. The Praxic Warlocks, and specifically Warlock Aunor Mahal has taken a special interest in the Drifter’s Gambit and how it has normalized interactions with the Taken for Guardians. The Praxic Order, who’s Creed dictates that they aim to keep artifacts of Darkness away from Guardians, would understandably find this new Guardian mindset of tempting the Dark repugnant towards their beliefs. Say what you will about the morality of a grey area between Light and Darkness, but the line isn’t as thin as certain individuals (*cough*Uldren*cough*) like to think it is. And its clear what side of the line the Drifter operates on.
We all know the Drifter has never been up to any good from the start. Although he started Gambit in conjunction with Lord Shaxx and Shin Malphur, there was always the underlying suspicion that he’s been operating on his own without the knowledge of consent of his two handlers. Neither Shin nor Shaxx even knew about the Primeval aspect to Gambit until the Drifter unveiled them for the first time. He isn’t trustworthy, that’s obvious enough. Keeping his operations tucked away in a nook in the Tower, impersonating sanitation crew to spy on the Consensus, robbing a train and dismantling the Redjacks guarding it for “good reasons”, using the Darkness and Taken for sport, disregard for Lightbearer Life, providing guidance to the Guardian on recreating a Hive ritual that would taint their own Light. The list goes on Its all leading to a breaking point. I believe that… something is going to happen.
If I were to guess, the Allegiance Quest will be much bigger than a simple gun grab. Perhaps I’m mistaken, but I’d say that the outcome will determine the fate of the Drifter, acting as a sort of poll to determine Guardian opinion on the subject. Whether the Drifter will be allowed to continue operating in the Tower, or if he’ll be exiled from the City all together. I doubt they’d get rid of Gambit or its handler one season after its been out, but if the latter were to happen, and the large majority of Guardians side with the Vanguard, perhaps the Drifter would be forced to operate Gambit out of his Derelict, maybe even opening up a new small social space there. We will soon be using it to access the plains of Nine after all, so it seems plausible.
Unfortunately, most Guardians don’t see the Drifter for the threat he is. That or they hate the Vanguard so much they’d side with him out of spite. Either way, general consensus for how the Allegiance Quest will turn out seems to be in favor of the Drifter. Its like Jalaal said, it is fashionable to be a rogue. Its an accessory. No substance to it. Taking us all one step closer to another Dark Age.

2 通の返信I feel like the real reason we're seeing all this is that Bungie wants the players to form hostile groups against each other so that they can chase some nonsense like open world PvEvP and claim that it's what the players wanted.

1 返信What's certainly interesting is that the Drifter is undeniably untrustworthy, but that his end goal is still vague. Could be worth it, could not be. We have to take that gamble.

I already know who my hunter is going to side with: Drifter, all the way, baby! Why? I got to know the hunter class and the enemy a lot better via Gambit. I used to die a lot in PvE and Crucible. Taken were especially overwhelming for me, and it sucks getting ganked in Crucible by players with a 1.0 or higher KDA. Gambit makes both PvE and PvP manageable. It's the perfect step between the two game modes After 157 matches of solo Gambit, Strikes and Nightfalls have become fun little speed runs, and people don't have to carry me anymore. I'm starting to predict the actions of invaders and have begun to bag them when I see them. If Gambit starts getting too easy, I'll try my luck again in the Crucible. My main Guardian is better at her job because of Drifter. He has my loyalty both in-character and out-of-character. :D

Nice post. I'm siding with Drifter purely out of curiosity with a avalache of hatred of the Vanguard. Drifter reminds me of my favorite character I made in Pathfinder a Neutral Evil conartist lol. I like his style, don't trust him, but I sure as hell like him, when you cross that line only person you can trust is yourself. Anyways my Warlock has been a "bad guy/anti-hero" in my head and I've been Dredgen since I got my hands on Thorn back in the first game. It's time to see what the Darkness can do 😎

The part of the Allegiance quest maybe being a poll made me really anticipate it. Though I'm skeptical this will be the application, it gets me thinking of just awesome the world of destiny would be if it was ever changing by player input. Before cayde there has never been some significant change to the tower or world in general. Having activities that dictate how the game changes and evolves is something would make it feel more alive and add a looming shadow of suspense always.

2 通の返信I'm siding with the Drifter, if he's exiled then he has reason to send a legion of primevals to the city, not to mention that if he does know anything about the deep we'll need him in the city talking to Ikora. I think the Praxic Order is taking it a little to far, hell even Shin's ok with guardians going grey, just as long as they don't go dark. Anyway my point is that if we want to win the war against the Deep we must understand what it is, what it's weakness is, what we should do is experiments with it's powers, just as Drifter is doing. Though Drifter should defiantly be kept in check by Shin and Shaxx.

6 通の返信I'm siding with the Drifter. The Vanguard was too cowardly too avenge Cayde-6, so to hell with them.

11 通の返信Unless the Drifter is right. You kinda ignored that point. The entities he met snuff out Light. So how do you fight them when they negate your power? You use a power they can’t snuff out. You use the Darkness. Is it dangerous? Yes. Can he be honest about it? No. If he was they’d kick him out and he’d be by himself or with too small a group of curious Guardians. Not enough to win the conflict. Hunted by Shin and the Vanguard. Not good odds of even surviving to try. Does he enjoy walking a darker side? Yeah, he’s a freaking loon. His time on that ice ball, in his lore history, makes it clear that it did a number on him. Being a Dredgen meant he was already willing to walk in the shade. Going nuts out there made it worse. That doesn’t mean he is wrong. That purist mentality is what will bring back another Dark Age. We lost the fight last time and the Black Ships are coming back. What makes you think we can win this time?? I don’t see any way we can with that black and white idealism. We couldn’t stop Ghaul after all. How the heck can we fare better against them?

6 通の返信I'll copy & paste what I posted in the Narrative thread: Taeko-3, the (supposedly) last remaining Guardian alive during Savathun's Song was from the Praxic Order. 9 Guardians and 9 Ghost went down to investigate, and there are only 16 Void crystal/charges you encounter during the strike. Meaning one Guardian and Ghost are unaccounted for and MIA. I find that suspicious, like the Fireteams were sabotaged.

4 通の返信Screw it Im gonna go with the Drifter, even though I sure as hell don’t trust him. He at least wants to get things done. Unlike a certain Vanguard Commander I know.... After Zavala basically telling us off and not so as much lifting a finger to help in the dreaming city, stop the fallen from creating Insurrection Prime, and is at odds with Ikora, the Vanguard is nothing more but a puppet government at this rate. The factions have done very little as well besides compete with each other. But let’s make this clear, I don’t trust Drifter. Not 100%, not 50%, not even 25%. But if he -blam!-s with us, I get to take his ship.

7 通の返信<The Drifter won't bring us to another Dark Age. The Darkness will. The Deep is a much bigger threat than any one of our current ones combined. We need to understand it because SOME OF US haven't gotten the hint yet (looking at you Ghost, we visit the Queen's Court and the holograms are still there).>

2 通の返信I think the Order mentioned in the latest teaser is taking the Drifter way too seriously. Comparing him to a bug that has wiped out hundreds of worlds is exaggerating at its finest— if anything, normalizing interaction with the Taken is a good thing. Considering how many we will have to deal with in the future.
-
I mean, yes he’s meddling with Taken and some dark, dangerous stuff that has already resulted in at least 3 permakilled Guardians and allowed for the Shadows of Yor to gain a foothold (sort of?) in the Tower given all the new Dredgens going around. So while I am aware that he’s quite the shady character who can’t really be trusted, there’s still a lot we don’t know. I’m determined to dig deeper to find out what else there is about him and why he’s doing what he’s doing. Another big reason why I’m real indecisive right now is due to the inclusion of the Nine. Now at this point in time, we know very little of the Nine, and whenever they’re mentioned in lore, everything automatically becomes very complicated and deep. The fact that the Nine are working WITH the Drifter makes the decision to side with or against him much harder to think about. Overall, it’s simply impossible to see this as simply black and white. There’s too many unknowns right now.
