"He's not going to talk." The Makeshift Detectives had been standing in the temporary holding cells for half an hour, and Xavier had been sitting with his face to the wall, not saying a word. "This is going nowhere" said Greg angrily. Snow gripped the metal bars. "What did he promise you?! What could be worth murdering all these people huh? You're sick!" She spat at him. At her words Xavier turned to face them. He didn't say anything, but stared at Snow with a look of malice until she couldn't stand to see him anymore and turned away. He truly was sick, and he knew it. "We should go" said Celle quietly. They agreed and left the room. __________________________________________ Celle woke up. He was lying on the floor of Moose's room surrounded by the other detectives. After what happened to Mjol, they decided it was best that they stay together at all times. He had had that same dream again, except this time Nate looked different. His skin seemed to glow brighter and brighter until Celle said his parting line "I hate you Nate!" With those words Nate would burst into light and all his surroundings would be buried in blinding white. Celle had been thinking about the dream since he had it. He knew where it came from. It was a memory from his childhood. He and Nate had been playing in the field by his grandparents house during one of their visits. Celle wanted to play detectives, as he was a fan of children's mystery novels. Celle's father didn't like Celle's fascination in crime, as he himself was a soldier and was planning on becoming a police officer once his days in the army were over. He had refused Celle the permission to play with his magnifying glass, so in retaliation, Celle had taken it. The memory from the dream had followed, and Celle had broken the glass. Nate ran to tell their parents, only to find their grandparents and mother sitting at the table crying. Their father had been unexpectedly called to action, and the boys hadn't been there to say goodbye. That day was burned into Celle's memory as the worst day of his life. His father never returned, and Celle was too busy disobeying him to say goodbye. Celle sat up. Daniel was sitting in one of the armchairs sharpening his knife. "Couldn't sleep?" Said Daniel. Celle rose from the floor and took a seat across from him. "Just a dream" said Celle. "What're you doing up?" "Couldn't sleep on account of my neighbors." He gestured to his empty floor space with his blankets and pillows. Oran was half sprawled out across Daniels space and Jason was murmuring in his sleep about a "sword squid" taking his gin. There wasn't much floor space in Moose's room. After a short silence, Daniel said: "What're you thinking about?" "Nothing." "Don't lie. I can tell when someone's lying" "I suppose I'm just worried about...well...everything. We might never make it off this boat. And if we do, what will happen then? Will we just return to our normal lives? I don't think I could after what's happened........" "That's not important right now" said Daniel sternly. "We're not trying to save our lives we're trying to save everyone's." "I guess you're right. I think I'll try to sleep again. G'night" ________________________________________________ The next morning they awoke to another mass murder. Ten bodies had been discovered with bullet holes in their skulls. They had been left in the lounge chairs by the pool. The crime scene left no evidence and the team was once again left with nothing. No notion of where to go or what to do. The passengers were becoming more frightened. Before they had merely passed the murders off as rumors or freak accidents, but now that the bodies were being left in more public places, they knew they were in danger. They had locked themselves in their rooms and rarely left. Once again, Greg was reminded of his family and the danger he had put them in. But there was no going back now. He sent his wife and boys notes, informing them of all that was happening, and he prayed that Mortis didn't know about them. Everyone was in danger, and left in the hands of a maniac.
