The trick to getting exotics is by doing all milestones on all characters. Raid, 100K nightfall, Shattered Throne, Blind Well, weeklies and dailies.
If youre relying on enemies to drop a wild exotic engram, youre going to be waiting for a long time. This is where the general complaint from most casuals are from. They just expect a wild exotic engram to drop from enemies. If that were the case, the whole community would have been swimming in exotics by now. Hence also why no one has mentioned a proper loot cave farm.
And yet, you have your supposed "Elitists" who have nearly collected all the exotics. They focus their milestones compared to casuals.

Maybe it’s bad luck but I’ve had more exotics drop from strike Bosses and random ads than for completing milestones, anyway the games rng system is a joke. By reading some of the comments it seems like the casual 1hr a day dudes are getting more exotics compared to us that put in way more hours.

Why would i waste my time doing that? Id rather get laid or make money. Games a joke and all Bungie does is fix minor things, add massive disincentives to grind and sell us season passes filled with re-rolled reskins. I'll pass, maybe Division 2 will be halfway worth grinding. This game can burn in hell with its silly RNG and pseudo content.
