If I reset my valor rank before I get to the quest step will it count towards the 5 total resets?

I had heard that resetting before that step DOES count, as it says reset 'with a single season', so it just looks at your seasonal resets and once it hits 5, it counts it. I am almost at this step, I will try to remember to clarify things in more detail via a response afterwards for everyone.
