If you have someone constantly doing this then please report them for griefing. I've had people do anyting from quick killing the walker then ignoring the chest at the end (clear griefing) to running off with one of the orbs or just standing near the orb lock while doing nothing.
Report them and Bungie will look at their game history and ban as appropriate. Weirdly this behaviour is one of the things Bungie does take seriously!

Not getting the chest who cares they are farming xp. While you’re crying opening the chest they already spawned on another server doing heroic on the second or 3rd round. You would think common sense would tell you to fast travel and get more xp and a heroic.

Except that any progress on the solstice requires heroic event completions not normal ones. So someone simply ending an event then running off is definitely griefing anyone else at the event who is actually in the process of unlocking the caches. If it's not on the flashpoint then the person has zero reason to end the event and miss the chest. They literally get nothing for it aside from minimal xp.
