Sunshot Needs a Mag Buff - Day 7 (Finale)

This is it Guardians, the final day in my personal crusade to get the Sunshot a mag buff. If you’re still here, thanks for supporting the cause. I’m calling it quits, I’ve read the room and people have lost interest. Day 5 and 6 are buried somewhere in the feedback forum, and I have little hope that Bungie is going to reply. First off, Destiny 2 has bigger problems than the mag size of the Sunshot. There is no denying that, but the key word there is ‘bigger’. The bigger problems at Bungie are… bigger; they require real time and effort in order to fix. I hope my posts have proven that a simple +2 mag buff is a change that wouldn’t create any balance issues. We’re talking about a single line of code that could be slipped in to any minor release, and it would require next to no play testing at all. Next up, a single post per day does not constitute spam and it certainly isn’t “distracting Bungie from the real issues”. After every update that Bungie releases, they ask for feedback. I believe that I have done just that albeit, in much more detail than necessary. The reason I’ve kept up at this for so long was because I thoroughly enjoyed talking with other people about D2. It’s been a while since I cared enough about D2 to actually post. *** After writing 6 distinct arguments against the Sunshot’s viability, I find myself having a hard time using the gun anymore. We even had solar burn this week for Heroic Strikes, but I just wasn’t having fun. I ran all of my weekly challenges with my Warlock first, and it wasn’t that big of an issue with the Ophidian Aspects buffing my reload speed. I found the experience to be worse on my Hunter, where my dodge couldn’t keep up with how fast I was burning through mags. Finally, I found the experience terrible on my Titan with nothing helping the gun out. With the exception of psions, the Sunshot cannot kill enemies with a single headshot and the explosion isn’t strong enough to take out full health bottom tier enemies. I was able to get a sunsplosion kill in Iron Banner and I was able to chain a few explosion kills in PvE, but these moments were few and far between. More often than not, I found myself stuck behind cover reloading or dying as I point my empty gun at an enemy. Eventually, I did what I should have done from the start; I unequipped the Sunshot. There is a gun out there that does everything the Sunshot does and more in both PvP or PvE. This gun is the Polaris Lance. It shares the same RoF and TTK in PvP and is able to output way more DPS in PvE. The Polaris Lance returns ammo on precision shots, procs an explosive round every 5th headshot, and gets dragonfly when you’ve finished the Masterwork catalyst. Furthermore, the Perfect 5th explosive round deals DoT to enemies caught in the explosion. Pair this gun with a Midnight coup, and you only have to get comfortable with a single RoF for both guns. The midnight coup tears through trash mobs with rampage and has very little downtime as outlaw grants the gun crazy reload speed. At the end of the day, the best thing you can do with the Sunshot is put it away until it gets buffed. A two round magazine buff was never going to make the Sunshot great in every situation, but it would have made it better/usable in more situations. I love the Sunshot and I always will, but I can’t keep ignoring the shortcomings of the gun. Do what I did, grab yourself a Polaris lance and just give it a shot. Chances are, you’ll find the experience you’ve always wanted to have with the Sunshot. Thanks to everyone who came by and contributed to the discussion. I had a surprising amount of fun writing this series and just talking to others who share my passion. Even if nothing comes from this, I can rest easy knowing that I gave it my best effort. Keep it real Guardians, - A concerned Sunshotter Day 1 : Day 2 : Day 3 : Day 4 : Day 5 - Day 6 -
