Anyone who owns the game and or finished it, what are your takes on it? I've only played Super Mario 64 and the Galaxies for 3D Mario games. Do they succeed these titles well or does Odyssey lack in comparison?
Regardless, I still will most likely enjoy the game. I just want some other opinions.
Ironically, though, the only two collectathons I know of this year are Mario Odyssey, and A Hat in Time. The ironic part about that is that Odyssey uses Banjo Kazooie’s collectathon system, while A Hat in Time uses Mario’s old one. Anyhow, I really enjoyed it. I’ve gotten all the Moons but 3, and overall it was definitely a fun game. I think the jump mechanics are the best they’ve ever been, and the references to past games were pretty great (though I’m sad there was nothing for Sunshine). The story’s pretty standard as far as Mario goes, but I mean, it’s Mario, who’s playing for story? The bosses weren’t as fun as Sunshine’s, but they beat Galaxy’s, and definitely beat 64. I liked most of the areas, both thematically, and gameplay wise. I like how coins are finally a currency, and that you can change your outfit (though I wish captures used the hat you were wearing..). However, they went way overboard on Moons. There are a good amount that are really, really pointless, and I will always prefer the “Mario style” collectathons over the “Banjo style” ones. There’s not a lot of replayability, unless you want to start a completely new file, and without Amiibo finding all the moons will take a lot of coins. Speaking of Amiibo, I also dislike how your only sense of direction for finding purple coins is a Bowser Amiibo. Finally, if you want to beat the game 100% you will need to buy 114 extra Moons which costs 11,400 coins total, adding this annoying artificial length to the game, just to bump the counter to 999, for no real apparent reason. This last complaint’s a little spoilery;
I wish they had some more Yoshi missions, and that the ones they do have weren’t just “eat all the things”. Yoshi’s Spiderman tongue could’ve made for some fun platforming segments.
Overall, my favorite’s still Sunshine, but Odyssey’s definitely worth a playthrough. And for those curious, the Moons I’m missing;
Jumprope Genius, Champion of the Beach, and whatever the one you get at Clumina Crater is called.
1 返信It’s fantastic. And if you loved Mario 64, Odyssey is basically a love letter to those fans. Especially in the end-game, there’s tons of fan service for 64 fans. Platforming is the best it’s ever been. And it actually takes a bit of skill to do certain things. The worlds are so wonderfully silly and happy that you can’t help but smile while playing. Moon collecting is addicting and satisfying as -blam!-. The music is amazing. Etc. I definitely recommend it to you

3 通の返信Honestly it’s my favorite game of 2017. To me, it’s on the level of not better than Super Mario 64.

2 通の返信I honestly like it more than BoTW. BoTW, from a technical and analytical standpoint, is the superior game. But i enjoyed my time with Odyssey more. I think that has to do with the game being more linear maybe.
