Hmm, how about no.
While the current weapon system isn’t the most appreciated, it at least prevents sniper and shotty domination, a rather big issue in the previous game.
Snipers definitely need a buff if they’re gonna be slotted into Power/Heavy weapon category though.
I've always loved snipers in battlefield, and personally, I think they primaries could be easily balanced to accommodate snipers and shottys in this system, though there should certainly be some drawbacks like a high time to aim and slower handling speed for these special weapons.
As far as special weapon domination, that could have easily been fixed on Bungie's part by changing the ammo economy, perhaps rewarding some amount of special ammo per primary weapon kill or potentially even starting with a set amount that doesn't increase. Regardless, with the balance changes above, we could keep the D1 system without changing the special weapon economy.
I think the biggest issue isn’t so much ammo as it is the overall design that they went for.
Games like Battlefield or Titanfall have a much quicker ttk and, overall, better sniper design accommodated to their maps.
They make it work, but Destiny has/had the opposite on both sides hence why snipers are scaled back a bit and why the No Land Beyond and sidearm had such a significant holding.
Had snipers been closer to Praedyth’s Revenge’s design, there would’ve been a lot more concerns.
Now that I think about it, they’re still following their old design from Halo as far as map design goes.
Almost boxed in and linear.
