It doesn't really matter that he's a cop, he was off duty in a city that wasn't his Jurisdiction, and he's only a part time cop.
He could have been anyone who actively trains with their CCW on a regular basis. In fact, most private citizens put more rounds down range in training in a month than cops do in a year.
Biggest problem is, he's carries a .380. Shot the guy once and dropped him only for him to get back up. 9mm, .40, 10mm, and .45 all would have dropped the attacker on the first shot with the proper ammo.
Lesson to be learned kids, don't carry .380. It's the minimum safe cartridge for a reason. That's why I carry four .44 magnum revolvers with 6 rounds of 305 grain hardened lead bullets. They loaded with bears in mind.

2 通の返信You just proved that a gun can drop a fella with a knife.
didnt know that at all
What happens when a better trained citizen, as op pointed out, decides to go on a gun rampage?

2 通の返信Inb4 I get attacked as a liberal for "banning guns" lemme just make something clear - 1) I agree that citizens should be allowed to carry HANDGUNS You don't need a semi automatic assault weapon with armor piercing rounds to protect against a knife. Just to be clear: Handguns: good. Sure. Assault weapons: No Armor piercing rounds: Legal in some states, but no Leave your salt below

Whereas a CCW permit can be any rando with no training whatsoever.

35 通の返信I just read Hillary's blaming Trump's rhetoric for this weekend's attacks. Who's rhetoric was to blame for Benghazi, Ft Hood, the Boston Bombing, the Naval Reserve shooting, and San Bernardino?

6 通の返信Do people not realize that in order to be able to legally conceal and carry your firearm you have to go through training?

13 通の返信Most private citizens? False. Also, it's good that he was there. He was one of the good guys with a gun. However, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't make it harder for the bad guys to get guns. Additionally, it's worth noting that he used a handgun with what is safe to assume was a standard clip. He didn't need an assault rifle, nor did he need an extended magazine. Nevertheless, he was able to defend himself and others.

16 通の返信Tosevite 187により編集済み: 9/19/2016 9:23:51 PMLesson to be learned is law enforcement on duty or off duty are the only ones who can save us from ourselves. They are the only ones who can make critical unbiased decisions for the good of the people. Their extensive training teaches them how to deal with these situations, something a regular armed citizen with a gun can't. I mean this further proves police should be the only ones armed and we shouldn't stop at banning civilian gun use, ban large knives. Who cares if it takes you 5x longer to carve your thanksgiving turkey at least your son wasn't stabbed to death at the mall

1 返信YoYoにより編集済み: 9/20/2016 3:26:02 PMOut of what I read I'm assuming a .380 was a better choice for 3 reasons. If the attacker didn't get up there's less damage therefore it's overall better. It probably won't penetrate or at least is least likely. And it is easy to handle

...and likely overpenetrated and injured bystanders. What matters is that you had someone who was a trained shooter, and trained in the responsible use of deadly force. Who was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time.
