An Exotic Story: The Super Good Advice

This is pretty long but let me know what you think. Edit: I've seen this else where so I guess I will follow suit. This is trending yay I guess. The Super Good Advice was built to help its wielder as much as possible. To this end the SGA was designed to incorporate an incredible combination of Golden Age technology; including Smart rounds, capable of reporting their trajectory to a highly sophisticated micro-transmat protocol, which then reclaims spent rounds that have missed their mark. This smart system was designed so that even when the SGA’s wielder’s aim fails their precious ammunition is not wasted but instead can return to help the wielder survive to fight another day. One of the most interesting, and in this case most important, aspects of smart systems like the one found in the Super Good Advice is that there is a commonly held but contested belief that they will spontaneously develop a sense of awareness and personality. Many engineers will contest this idea because it is ultimately inexplicable, but any guardian who has used the SGA would likely attest to distinct personality exhibited by this gun. The unique personality of the Super Good Advice, which developed at some point during its many years of use, is defined by the endlessly helpful nature of its smart system. The gun which was built to be a helpful force, almost without fail, developed the mind of loyal friend and even its name boast of its desire to aid as it dispenses some “super good advice”. With its mechanical design and unexplainable personality both aligned in purpose the SGA became an eternally devoted companion that would not fail its wielder or “friend.” One quirk of the SGA’s personality is that it has grown a distinct dislike of rocket launchers and those who use them. It is likely because of the Super Good Advice’s nature as a faithful companion that it found such heavy use with its most famous wielder the legendary hunter Pahanin. The Hunter Pahanin fought alongside Kabr and Praedyth during a now legendary incursion into the Vault of Glass. During this battle Pahanin witnessed his allies being effectively removed from time by the heartless vex. Pahnin was the only one to escape the Vault with his place in time and reality left intact. Subsequently Pahnin developed a fear of traveling alone, and what weapon would be better for a hunter scared of isolation than a gun that craved a companion for it to help. For this reason Pahnin and the Super Good Advice formed a strong bond. Over the years Pahnin stayed faithful to his new companion, the SGA, and in return it never failed him and it remained his constant companion during his journeys. That is until one day when Pahnin, the SGA’s worthy and faithful wielder, had an unfortunate encounter with the corrupted guardian Dredgen Yor and Pahnin met his end at the accursed Thorn. And so two heroes were lost to the light. The Super Good Advice was left alone on Mars with no guardian to call its companion and so it could help no one. The Super Good Advice remained alone for many years and for all of those years it mourned the loss of Pahnin, as it mourned it wasted away until it was inoperable. Finally, after it had mourned Pahnin for as long as it could, it called out to a passing hunter. This hunter did not find the SGA, instead the hunter returned to the tower and told the vanguard of the strange call it had heard. It was a voice in the wilderness. Later, after the Black Garden was destroyed, another guardian found the weathered frame of this benevolent gun. This guardian endeavored to repair the SGA to its former glory, mending the frame as well as initiating the recovery of the smart systems personality. The SGA finally had another guardian to help, but it was not pleased. The Super Good Advice had emerged into its worst nightmare. All of the guardians were engaged in a cult-like adoration for a memorial to fallen guardians, and this memorial was the legendary rocket launcher the Gjallarhorn. The SGA was distraught by what it saw as a misplaced devotion. Due to the SGA’s displeasure it was unable to operate to its fullest potential, this was an unforeseen effect of the smart system’s odd personality, and it was limited to firing erratically and then returning the rounds that it had destined to miss in the first place. The guardians that it wanted so desperately to serve deemed it unworthy of their attention. The SGA was no longer enthusiastic about its return to service. But then the world changed, Oryx the Taken King arrived in our solar system. When the guardians rallied to handle the taken threat they found that the fury of the Gjallarhorn was no longer great enough to meet their demands. As this was discovered the center of the guardians’ adoration was reduced to an old relic and was forgotten by many guardians as they searched for new tools that would allow them to challenge Oryx. As the Gjallarhorn became a memory the Super Good Advice prepared to return for its triumphant victory over its long time enemy, rocket launchers. Guardians who had previously mocked the SGA were desperate enough to take a second look at its abilities. When they did, they found that it was more controllable and its magazine was almost bottomless. Many guardians continued to search for other greater weapons but some were content with the SGA and they became its friends. The Super Good Advice is still not the strongest gun but it never was and it never wanted to be the greatest, but now it was the companion of a new guardian just like Pahnin before. The guardians have found the SGA to be a constant companion and reliable ally, some have bonded with it like Pahnin had and are now reluctant to abandon it at any time. The guardians that wield the Super Good Advice have finally headed its advice and perhaps this is the same advice that it gave to Pahnin on those lonely days after the Vault of Glass all those years ago. Maybe this advice is all that it has ever said, “Trust me. Trust me and you will not be lost. Trust me and I will not fail you.” P.S. If you like this well enough I might do more.
