First off let me just say I probably will be preordering RoI but in this case I will buy RoI so it's ok to get the bonuses if I'm gonna get the game either way. But anyway preordering is bad for the industry in most cases because no matter if the product is good or not companies can say to investors look at our sales before the game even comes out. Look at halo 5 the ad campaign was misleading and a total lie but it also drove preorders but the final campaign was trash but Microsoft had already tricked plenty of people.

Pre-ordering once upon a time used to mean just reserving a copy so that you could play the game at launch, nothing more and nothing less. These days game companies are playing hardball by offering 'incentives' to pre-ordering something rather then just letting people decide if they want the game at launch or not. It's a way of bolstering their initial sales to make them look good by dangling carrots in front of people by telling them they can get something cool by pre-ordering games. 'Exclusive' missions, weapons, skins, content etc etc. The worst of these was when Square-Enix tried to make a mission out of it to get people to pre-order Mankind Divided to 'unlock' content and not even all of it either, you got to 'select' your preorder bonuses. The peak of this was the top prize being...getting the game 4 days early. People rightly so stomped this plan into the ground and so it doesn't exist anymore. These days if games like Goldeneye were sold, missions like Aztec would probably be squared away as a preorder bonus since it was a secret level. It seems to be a tactic these days they are using to combat video game reviewers by getting people to buy the thing before a single review even comes out. If you want to preorder a game cause you fully believe it will be good then by all means do it I ain't going to stop you, however this pre-order culture of carrots and horses is pretty shoddy in my opinion.

Okay, but seriously people, who really pre-orders a game that they're not already dead set on buying anyway? If people think that just these, exclusives and pre-order bonuses, are the root of pre-ordering you've probably lost all grasp on why people do it. Or that's just what you think the new fad is. I pre-ordered the RoI because I know I'll play it regardless and Destiny is really the only game I follow anymore (besides sitting idly by and wishing the Remastered Skyrim would magically appear in the stores). I only pre-order things that I know I'm going to get regardless on whether everyone else thinks it's really bad or horrible or not. Who in the world pre-orders a new CoD game or FIFA game without the sentiment that they're ultimately going to get it anyway? It's just going to happen, so why not get it out of the way. We all know these people, those people who always buy the next FIFA or always get the next CoD or always want the next of this or that. Or next Halo. Or next Dark Souls or next anything for that franchise. And they really don't care about the overall state that game might have *cough *cough *Halo *cough, they're going to get it anyway regardless. Just because it was made by this or that. And that's all they really want usually right off that bat and everything else can wait. They typically don't go out pre-ordering 5 or 6 games... unless you just have that much money. Or really don't care about saving money. Pre-order exclusives and bonuses are rarely, if ever, super good. Everyone knows that. Absolutely everyone. But if you're going to get the game anyway when it comes out... why the hell not, right? Yes, you win some and you lose occasionally, (as I did with ESO because I just couldn't get into it), but I really was going to get it anyway. Besides, if you pre-order then typically you can just download the game rather than going to a store and getting a disc. It's not perfect, but I resent the statement that people think others only Pre-order due to little bonuses. That's just not true 99% of the time. Some people do, I won't deny as I can't speak for everyone, but most really don't. They see it as extra incentive, not the main reason. Lol, and not meaning to hate on Halo players but, c'mon, Halo has never been higher than when Halo Reach was out or anything before that.

ill never pre order a game. That being said if its just a dlc and I already love the game then yes I will pre order a dlc. Why bc I want to play that content the first day and then help my friends in the grind process.

Pre-orders aren't helping the gaming industry though...honestly if anything it really makes the developers see that they can make promises, show off a bit of flashy gameplay and pre-order bonuses, and then push out whatever they please. It also let's them know they can withhold certain pieces of content and sale the rights to distributors so you never have the full game. Think about Rise of Iron itself. When they first put up pre-orders all they had to do was show of 3 minutes of combined cutscenes and flashes of gameplay, and then go "PRE-ORDER NOW TO GET THE IRON GJALLARHORN" and you people ate it up without a second notice. They could have made this coming expansion ass for all you know, but it wouldn't matter since they would have your money in the sweaty little palms. Now I know some people are going to go "Well I knew/know (insert bad reasons here)" and I am going to tell you that you DON'T KNOW ANYTHING. The future holds many different outcomes. Hell I thought, as did others, that SFV was going to be the best game ever and we were going to have great fun with that, but look how that turned out. Point is, it doesn't matter how much you may be enjoying something now, you never know how you are going to enjoy something in the future with it's releases because they could always add a feature that makes you not want to play anymore.

I pre-ordered the limited edition FFXV because I love final fantasy and was planning on getting the game anyways, I also pre-ordered the gears 4 xbone s even though I have an xbone since gears is my all time favorite story

Pre ordering in theory is horrible. You are paying money for a product you know very little to nothing about. You have no idea if you will be lied to, cheated out of your money, or just straight up disappointed in what you get. This does in fact let devs get lazy and make half assed products because they already have your money who cares about anything else. right? If you what more in depth discussion of pre ordering stuff go look up totalbiscuit on youtube I think he has several 30 minute discussions there.

I've paid $60 for a game that I only play for about a week and then I'm done with it, not even 20 hours played. Destiny, with all of its flaws, is a game that I have invested well over 2000 hours. This expansion is going to make me invest well over a hundred hours into this game, and for $30? That's a damn good price in my honest opinion!
