I recently had a post about how this could be fixed. Among a few other changes was a permanent second tier that you got put into once you get to the lighthouse. That way it's easier for the average player without a decent fireteam to make it for their first time.

Don't you think there's some double morale in that. People hating on others getting carried because they "did not deserve to go flawless", yet they want to change the whole system just to make it easier for themselves. Do the people going flawless after they've locked out all the best players really deserve the lighthouse more than the ones getting carried now. It's also not like the ones getting carried always have a 0.5 k/d and can't play. I've seen plenty of people getting "carried" doing pretty well. Maybe they are good enough to go flawless, they just needed a good team. And another thing i want to point out is this. If the player getting carried just happend to be friends with some god tier players. Would you still think it's bad that that guy went to the lighthouse? It's pretty much the same as someone getting carried by a streamer

  • I'm not trying to separate people.based on who deserves the lighthouse. Actually the opposite, I think it should be an attainable goal for most PvP focused players. It's not that carried players don't deserve to go, it's that the ones that are decent shouldn't have to go onto twitch and win a raffle to make it to the lighthouse. Honestly I'd like to see some form of SBMM in trials as opposed to Card based Match Making. Make it a little more lenient, but give better players better chances to face off against eachother, and let the .85 kd scrubs have a better shot at playing with other pug groups.

  • Skill based matchmaking is a terrible system, now before you say anything let me educate you on why. It's all about chances, a good team, which deserves to go to the lighthouse, is going to be above average. Currently that means with no skill based matchmaking they have an above 50% chance to win every game. With skill based matchmaking, it's 50/50. That's fair right? Yes and no. Because every game they win after that makes their odds even lower, to the point that you'd have to statistically do 10 or so runs just to be likely to get a flawless, even if you're good. The same goes for bad players, so nobody wins in this situation if the system works. Sure boons might help your chances, but it's still a low chance of flawless for everyone. Plus to add onto it, people who are good will purposely farm coins and throw games just to get their skill rating down to get matched with the scrubs. Then you'll have even more mlg360carryscopers against the newbies, it'll just mean the good player had to drop his stats into the floor to have a good chance at flawless.

  • I agree with all of that and that's why I don't think fixing trials will be that simple. However having skill as a second criteria to connection I think would be a good start. I also think two separate trials playlists, one for premades and one for randoms would be good as well. Or maybe just make the lighthouse available after 9 wins and give special rewards for flawless. There's a bunch of ways to improve the current matchmaking, I just hope we see some improvement to it with Rise of Iron.
