You can try running wireshark on your network to possibly detect the culprit if he's stupid enough to use his own IP.

Download wireshark from [url]https://www.wireshark.org/[/url] This shows you all packets that are going over your network (this may be overwhelming at first) but if you get DoS'd you'll notice a [u]lot[/u] more of the same packet coming from the same IP. If it's a DDoS (Distributed) however you probably can't determine the source since multiple clients are sending you packets. The tool just listens to your network btw, so you don't have to worry about it taking up any down/upstream bandwidth.
