So as consumers we are always disappointed to see a game with so little content and heavy reliance on dlc right? And for the most part rightfully so. But I hope to see if I can convince some people to understand why this happens so often.
People like to immediately say the company is corrupt and just money hungry. But never think about how different gaming is now. Games cost wayyyyyyyy more to make with bigger budgets and a certain standard for graphics and sound now. Yet developers can't make the price go above $60 to fix the problem of making that money back up. So they don't have as much content a lot of the time compared to even past games. Or have a ton of paid dlc. They just need to do it. Especially if the game doesn't sell enough on its own to make a profit. I'm not saying its good. But to at least understand why companies do it more.

Games always had little content it's nothing new. There was no end game,no multiplayer,no DLC and they were repetitive and if they had bugs there was no patches to fix it.You either dealt with the bugs or moved on to other games

There are plenty of games that release with a good amount of content without ridiculous budgets. Go look up Witcher 3's budget and then excuse the bullshit other companies pull. If a game releases with a lack of content and a season pass, I ignore it.

I don't buy this one bit. Sorry. For one we do see $60 games launch with a plethora of content. Second game development is becoming more affordable. Even indie developers are starting to come out with what we used to consider mid tier games. And on top of that games that lack content also tend to price gouge you with DLC and come from the most profiteering companies in the industry. So no, I don't understand it. It's BS and should be called out. Street Fighter V is the poster child for 2016 of this.

1 返信I'm fine if they use money from launch to update the game(OVERWATCH.) I'm not fine if they release the update as paid DLC (DESTINY.)

Games might cost a lot more money to make nowadays than when it did way back then, but they also sell a lot more units per game due to gaming being much more common. So even though prices didn't rise they still make more money now than back in the days. Also a lot of that cost goes to marketing rather than development. It is not like publishers are going broke now as the big ones are multi million corperations.

4 通の返信Halo 5 launched with little content because 343 was rushed by Microsoft, I think. Not sure about other games.
-
13 通の返信Yeah but that doesn't justify games like Battlefront EA or Overwatch considering there are games like Witcher 3 and Fallout 4.

1 返信Considering games and consoles used to cost way more in the 90's I'm not exactly gonna complain.
