Sterling Treasure armor: Is it pay to win? I don't think it is.

Yes it is pay to win, no defending it.

Not really, I think it's harmless

I don't care, I won't buy them. Just my free ones.

Here me out... how many people will spend money just to get a full set at least once? I will I know, why? Cause it looks cool, and I have disposable income cause I don't buy anything but groceries and pay bills. But a lot of people see this as pay to win, but hear me out why I think it's not. What level do you need to be in order to use this armor? Forty right? So odds are most people have a full set of gear that is to what they want for play style. I know I have armor for shotgun ammo, and hand cannon loader gloves for each class... as well sniper loader for PvE. I have to say, most people (who aren't new) already have the gear they want. I know a lot of the 'Top Tier' players have already mid maxed their load outs to how they want. And some people said "As long as the armor had static rolls, they should be fine." But Bungie put that to rest saying that they won't be. But I have to ask this, as I stated before, how many of us already have gear that has the perks we want? The armor really isn't going to be any better or worse than what you could get just pulling things from engrams or doing the events. I can only see people making a 'pay to win' if a new player got them. But then what? They still have to go for the grind of getting high light gear to throw into the gear they paid for. So where is the win factor? Who will spend that much money on gear till they get the 'perfect' roll? Who knows how much that would cost. I honestly can say that unless weapons get introduced into Microtransactions, then it's pay to win. Because who knows... just throw money at the game till you get the god roll hand cannon or shotgun. But until then, I don't think this is really a 'pay to win' feature. As for the rep boosters, Bungie just wants us to get the new gear and Y1 weapons they brought back easier. They want us to enjoy the game without spending a month to grind for one rank to be disappointed it wasn't what we wanted. Can you blame them? We've all complained about the nose dive rep took... and they brought back the rep boost from Nightfalls, but... people were still unhappy. So this is Bungie saying "Hey we bumped it back up, AND gave you a reason to want to do it!" Also... is it really pay to win, when they'll make it so you can get these Sterling Treasure boxes three times each reset? If you just wait, you'll get them every week... the pay feature is for those impatient for that sweet sweet Taken armor...

  • What they could do is make everversee sterling treasure have a lower chance at rep boosters, or no rep boosters in them at all, while the ones you have to work for will have rep boosters. Furthermore, look at the game ESO, it implemented some non cosmetic items to its microtransaction system but also made them obtainable in game, premium subscribers also get more gold and exp, yet the game really doesn't feel completely pay to win (even with amazing potions and food that you can buy it still doesn't feel game breaking) HOWEVER if they release any item that can be used as a weapon, or any everversee exclusive weapons or drop chance modifiers. They will have stepped too far, and the community will murder them for it.

  • The reputation boosters are the issue really. As you say the gear being low light etc means there isn't any advantage. However the rep boosters are different, they do affect how quickly you can get other high level gear. Pay to save time is pay to win, that's how most micro transactions work. They don't normally give you something you couldn't get anyway through playing, they just give you a faster way to get them.

  • Ok, people are saying its pay to win, right? You get this gear and stuff out of sterling treasures, and on the stuff to earn stream, Deej said that you'd be getting around 5 treasures a week. Paying for them is only an option if you're impatient.

  • It might not directly be pay to win but you can buy an advantage: - Reputation gains -> more CHANCE at getting a weapon - more chances at better/ fitting armor rolls While all of that is not gamebreaking (yet) they put their feet into the door called pay2win :/ And I bet this wasn't the last update to eververse looking at what became of CODBO3 ...

To me, the simple fact that your not spending money for a weapon or an exotic makes it not a pay-to-win. I feel like this isn't harmful and that if people really wanna spend money on a piece of armor, I just say go ahead

      • Its the same thing mobile games are doing. Everyone can get everything eventually. If you want to speed it up, spend money. Its not pay to win because theres nothing that you can ONLY get with real money. Also, the things you can get are to weak to use right away. You have to llay the game and find things to infuse ot with to make it useable. So you still jave to play the new POE or raids, or court to level up anything you get from the boxes. While it sounds bad, its just a easier way to grind. If i don't have time everyday to play the game, why not spend $5 or $10 and get the same 3 boxes everyone else gets who play the game? Or if rng screws me but my friend got lucky, why not spend a few dollars to get what he got so we can play together and have fun, instead of him having better stuff and going to do other things without me? Theres many reasons, but its not pay to win. Look at mobile games, halo 5 packs, mass effect 3 multiplayer, world of tanks, and more.

      • Sterling is just a cosmetic, which can be gained normally, and needs to be infused anyway. So I don't see it as pay to win. I'm not sure how others see it as pay to win either. What does the sterling treasure do to increase winning?

        • It might seem harmless now but wait till destint2. Its one small step for pay to win one giant leap for bungievision's greed. Just wait, they are taking baby steps, gradually easing us into eververse selling everything(ammo, mats, weapons armors, exp boosts and so on).
