I think some autos need a buff. Bungie should start buffing single weapons instead of the whole archetype doctrine is in a good place I think a buff would result in even more doctrine nerfs.

                          • Buff don't nerf. Doctrine is perfect and powerful due to the perks and stability. Mida is perfect. Just need buffs on all the low performance weapons now. Especially fusions. I feel like those aren't even a gun anymore. Also pulse rifles need a buff badly.

Only the high and maybe the medium impact one to make them able to compete with the DOP.

                                • This is Vampire Nox's post. I totally agree with him which is why I posted this here because it has similar relevance. If you agree too help get this around and seen so we can make Bungie look at their mess they have made and offer perfect advice on how to clean it up and save Destiny!!
I'll open this thread with this truth: Nerfing destroys EVERY game. For the purpose of this discussion, I'll state that the Diablo franchise and Destiny utilize the exact same type of RNG loot system, but the handling of this system, plus the tweaks/updates to Diablo and Destiny are moving in very opposite directions. Has anyone ever wondered why the Diablo franchise has kept going for so long? Ever wonder why a very simple RPG hack-N-slash can keep fans waiting for 6+ years in between installments? Sure, Diablo III launched and was a steaming pile, but Blizzard fixed it over the course of a year, and after Reaper of Souls, the game is currently enjoying a player base that rivals/exceeds the number of players the Diablo II was boasting about. But why is this? As I said, Diablo is a fairly simple RPG Hack-N-Slash with an RNG Loot system. The story is well crafted, but fairly short. I mean; how many ways can you tell the story of: "Evil has escaped from the Burning Hells yet again, and it's up to you to stop it."? But yet, each release of a Diablo game sells copies in the record-setting-numbers area. The answer is: Power. Your character feels powerful as you eviscerated and lay waste to hordes of Demons. When items drops that even minimally increase your stats, you can immediately feel the difference in-game, as that increase causes you to do more damage, kill more demons faster, and romp through armies faster than before. You can feel your character growing more powerful. Inevitably, one or two Sets in the game will far outshine the others. When this happens, Blizzard does not nerf the Set, the buff up the other Sets. This falls in line with a philosophy that Blizzard has long held. This is a quote from a Blizzard Developer at Bliz-Con last year:
"When the player feels powerful, they have more fun and they play more. We can always give our enemies higher Hit Points and new attacks and defenses to compensate, but that feeling of being powerful will always keep the player coming back for more. If the player feels weak, or if they feel that their time in our game isn't amounting to anything, then the player will stop playing. So we always buff upwards and make the player more powerful with more tools."
Hell; in D3, players consistently find items that they cannot use. But rather than finding frustration with this, players keep on playing. Why? Simple answers: 1) It flat out RAINS items and gear in Diablo 3. You can't go five minutes without picking up twenty different items. 2) Crafting mats. Even if you can't use any of the 120+ items you picked up on that Rift run, you can always break it down into crafting mats that are guaranteed to be useful. 3) The game has an internal timer. If you haven't received a Legendary or Set item in the last hour of playing, the game drastically increases the percentage chance that one will drop. That percentage chance increases every five minutes after the first hour, and sometimes that causes the game to -blam!-ing rain legendary/Set items on your character. That's why people love the RNG of Diablo's loot system. Blizzard WANTS you to feel powerful and rewarded for your time in their game. Bungie even brought in these developers who developed the RNG loot system for Diablo 3 to assist them in fixing Destiny's (still) broken Loot system. The Blizzard developers even told them all that I wrote above. This meeting happened before TTK dropped, and was part of the selling points for why we should buy TTK. The Loot system was going to be "smart". Bungie says that they "fixed" the loot system in TTK. But; after six months of TTK being out, it's become very, very obvious that Bungie took all of that great advice from Blizzard and threw it all out in favor of Luke Smith and Wiesnewski's arrogance. Sure, Blizzard has only been creating games for far longer than Bungie, right? What could Blizzard know about great games and player retention that our resident Kotaku editor-turned-Lead Game Designer couldn't know? Bungie's philosophy is to "nerf down" if a weapon feels too powerful. So they don't just nerf one weapon, the issue MUST BE in the whole weapon class... so they end up destroying an entire weapon class as a result. This makes some other weapon class seem well overpowered, so they nerf that whole class down as well. This has created the rotating Meta that Destiny's players so despise, and it only serves to make Destiny's few remaining players feel weaker and more ineffectual with every update. We've seen it happen, repeatedly, over the last year-and-a-half. It will continue until Bungie finally (if ever) realizes this as well, then changes their very philosophy towards tweaking/updating this game. So yes, nerfing is destroying Destiny. In fact, it has already destroyed Destiny. Thoughts? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here's a great addition by BXR Lonestar:
100% Agree with this post, although you neglected to mention the infusion system. The RNG system alone is bad enough, but it is worse STILL when you consider the fact that our light progression is totally 100% linked with the RNG due to the infusion system. It's not raining 310-320 gear, so the vast majority of people are stuck somewhere between 308-312, with absolutely ZERO incentive to keep grinding. The grind is further increased by the fact you do not get 1:1 infusion value. This not only kills the player's incentive to keep playing, but it also increases the grind to a level that is entirely disrespectful of the players time and effort. And why grind so hard? Bungie has already proven that they will nerf the few guns you DO like from Y2 when the next installment comes out. Who cares if you don't get that Chaparone or First Curse? They're not that great to begin with and they'll be irrelevant in six months. That Imago Loop that's supposed to be Y2 Fatebringer? Yep, you just ran 100 strikes to get a 280 version of a weapon you already had from Y1 (MINUS the arc damage), only to have it become obsolete when D2 rolls around. By the way, did I mention that there is absolutely ZERO guns to get excited about when they drop? All the raid weapons minus the chain gun will be used for infusion. That further decreases any incentive we have left to keep grinding this game. And all the good perks? They've been nerfed to oblivion, largely for the sake of PVP. Send it no longer maxes the range on scout rifles. Fieldscout no longer gives you ridiculous magazine sizes. Firefly still causes explosions on headshots, but it is not like a single firefly shot can wipe out a group of thrall/dregs like it used to. Shot package doesn't even exist anymore, in spite of it being a near necessity to make a shotgun a consistent weapon (right now, one of the many complains about shotguns in PVE AND PVP is their inconsistency). So when you finally do get a gun where you DO like the raw stats, it is likely to contain watered down Y1 perks and REALLY CRAPPY situational Y2 perks that rarely trigger, if EVER! And no re-roll system so that WE can make all of bungie's "hard work" on Y2 perks irrelevant by rerolling those weapons until they are no longer tainted with lousy Y2 perks. It seemed with HoW that Bungie was playing with concepts which were positive steps in the right direction, but then they completely ignored the good things they did or threw it out the window.
A great view in grinding and RNG Loot from saint4hire:
As usual Vampire Nox, Great Post! I'm glad you brought up D3 - I've mentioned it a handful of times in the past in these forums and, in my humble opinion, has been one the best ways a company has ever implemented a "Fun Grind". It is beyond debate that D3 is extremely "grindy" - but the grind is well rewarded with the Paragon levels and, as you mentioned, the truckloads of loot you get and even the end-game when you have the "best in slot", it's not unusual to find something just a bit more awesome - or perhaps it's an "ancient" version or something with completely different stats that becomes a game-changer (it's amazing what a couple of higher-rolled vitality stats did for my UE Multishot DH in a solo Grft 75). Anyway, I've been playing D3 since it came out on PS3 (May 2012) and even bought the Ultimate Evil Edition for PS4 and I've played religiously ever since and I've never regretted my purchase. May of 2012 was almost 4 years ago!!! But that goes to show you what a game can be....and the sort of game I wish Destiny could be....
That's the difference in types of Grinding, Bungie.
• The high impact archetype could use the buff in pvp but the other archetypes are fine. PVE however is a different ballgame you run out of ammo almost as fast as a handcannon does in pve.
