TLDR; snipers don't have any drawbacks; like shotguns and fusion rifles only viable in close range, snipers should only be viable at mid-long range.
This video proves my point. This sniper has amazing skill, so much so that it negates the reason for there to be any other Special weapon in the game. Why use a shotgun, fusion, or sidearm if sniping is so powerful?

I'm not complaining about someone being better than me.
I don't want to change the mechanics of sniping. I don't want sniping to be any more difficult at all.
What I'm talking about is balance. A sniper rifle is meant to be used at longer ranges just like a shotgun is meant to be used at short range.
As the weapons currently work, sniper rifles can be used at any range and there aren't any drawbacks.
The idea is that if someone is ADS with a sniper and I have a shotgun or another close range weapon, I should have the advantage. Currently, it's too easy for a sniper to swap to their primary, because of this, they really aren't at a disadvantage. That's why TLW and Sniper combo is so incredibly effective.
Example: if I run with a shotgun, I have to close the gap and I can only kill targets at close range; same goes with sidearms.
If I used a fusion rifle, I have to learn the charge time, lead the shot and control the recoil but I can only hit targets close to mid range.
Sniper rifles can kill at any range, making them more powerful than the other Special Weapons.
If they had a longer handling time, like that of machine guns and rocket launcher, than that would keep people from using them up close as much because they would have a harder time swapping to their primary and be punished for using a long range weapon up close.
Or maybe aim assist wouldn't start until mid range.
My point is that they are the only weapon type in the game that can kill in 1-2 shots at any range and can quickly be stowed and swapped to.
I just want them being used at the range they are meant to be used.

Absolute 0. -snipers in BO3 have a variety of scopes, some of them not zooming at all -no-scopes are extremely consistent -aim-down sights times are similar to destiny's -snipers do not lose their radar when aiming down sights And somehow, sniping in Destiny is limited by (justified) special ammo shortages. 1 返信Snipers are more or less fine as they are right now. The people who complain about AA being too high usually either 1)have no idea what they're talking about or 2) have a negative k/d and are salty at some god-sniper for wrecking their shit. Though, I acknowledge this isn't the main argument of your point. While it's frustrating to get pegged at close range by a sniper, the reality is that they practiced at it, and it's not as easy as some think. People talk about COD and battlefield having no aim assist snipers, but this game isn't either of those. Those games have much faster ttk, without any of the movement options available in Destiny, so I feel like comparing those games is a bit silly, but whatever. This coming from an aggressive shotgun player, who has more kills with that then their primary (call me whatever names you want), and cannot pull off a headshot to save my life. Honestly, the only thing I would change is increase the time it takes to swap too and from sniper, to reduce the effectiveness of "body shot, primary clean up" since, in many cases, that is extremely hard to counter. Otherwise, play smarter.

Or even hit a body shot to be fair. On that point a body shot should do less damage. Snipers are meant to be a precision weapon but can leave someone absolute from across the map. Reduce the base damage and increase the multiplier for crits so it rewards headshots not body shots. - a sniper.

Why don't they (bungie): *Increase ADS scope distance by 2 or 3 times across the board. *Give snipers slower handling speed to compensate for increased zoom *Keep no-scoping the same as it is now *Decrease the holstering speed That way, they can only be for mid-long range while ADS is active, but a REALLY skilled hand can still get quick headshots while they aren't ADS.

1 返信I completely agree and I've posted some of these points myself over the past few months. I've said many times that snipers should only be viable at long range. Bungie themselves stated that they want all weapons to fit into certain niches. They said this when nerfing shotguns. They said that they are supposed to be a close range weapon so they nerfed the range. Too much if you ask me but that's another discussion. Anyway, they're always talking about the ranges of each weapon and at what distances they should be viable. Snipers SHOULD BE a long range weapon. They should only be a viable option at long range. It's total BS when I run up on somebody, start shooting them with a close to mid range primary, and they're able to switch to a sniper (while being shot) and kill me with a pull of the trigger from 15 feet away. For this reason, snipers are broken. Period. The only people defending them are the people who abuse them. I don't see how anyone who truly wants overall balance can disagree with me. I'm not asking to make them useless. They should still perform exactly as they do at long range. Maybe less aim assist, but whatever. Bottom line is this, it should be very difficult to line up a shot and get a kill inside 50 feet or so. I really hope Bungie rethinks snipers soon.

Make all snipers have only long range scopes. + No aim assist and horrible accuracy when firing non-scoped. Fusion rifles have the mid-range, so snipers should be long range only. This way, the people who are skilled enough will be rewarded. Those who are not will refer to different means(if they are smart enough).

4 通の返信Sniper grunts struggle to even use primary's. Lets all put on our IB or side arm as we suck without special ammo! Getting a head-shot from 2 feet away is plain stupid. ToO is so hard to go flawless unless you are a king sniper, they should rename it Trials of Snipers! The best result you can hope for is 6 god snipers seeing who can get the shot first...boring! I hear people saying ''rush them'' I do and 9/10 times suffer a double body shot from them, loads of fun

9 通の返信Snipers have a right to be like they are. There's no skill factor with any other secondary. It takes incredible skill to be able to outgun a shotgun with a sniper in close quarters.

Funny, I check back in on this game for the laughs after quitting months ago. People are finally echoing what I said multiple times about sniper rifles being cheap. It's too bad Bungie is the biggest joke of the gaming industry right now, otherwise they'd be smart enough to do something about it.

I agree with you. Snipers shouldn't be viable at close ranges - (I'd like to see lower aim assists overall) but none, NONE, at any distance under 50 feet or so. No one should be able to quick-scope someone who has gotten into the mid to close range so easily. Its a broken mechanic. There should be sway/ hard recoil/ a significant visual adjustment to scoping in/ out and if someone shoots you while you are hard scoped then you should flinch, hard, and/ or be de-scoped. That is what is broken about snipers. Its just funny to listen to people (so-called snipers) try to defend what is obviously a broken system. That they are soooooo skilled, right ? Yeah right. So believe what you want to believe. I will still be running a shotty or a fusion in PVP.

I am/was a sniper (I quit destiny awhile back) and I was consistently hitting body shots and swapping to The Last Word and finishing an enemy off. By my friends I was almost always wanted on crucible teams to play as a sniper/quickscoper. I have a lot of experience from CoD sniping which has helped very much with my ability to snipe in destiny. But, within destiny sniping, it's just way too easy. Any decent player can pick up a 1000 yard stare and use it as a primary for a single game and get 20-30 kills. From reading your idea of making its draw like a heavy machine gun, I have thought bungie should 1: remove aim assist at ranges less than 25-45 feet in game. (obviously). 2: Make any sniper have the recoil of a max stability rocket launcher, have the same time between shots as a slow firing rocket laucher, and make the draw weight of any sniper (bungie could potentially incorporate gun mass) the same as a quilums terminus. Rant over.

2 通の返信I feel the same way. I think a good solution would be to increase zoom of all sniper scopes by 10%(?). Also maybe increase flinch when scoped for snipers.

Such as tlw and sniper combo, it's very effective bc it prepares you for any range situations. Try and find a ranged primary to complement your shotgun. Such as jade rabbit etc. So your more prepared for any range engagement.

Snipers were always a problem in this game, just other things were better. But snipers are now being exposed for how flawed they are because everything else sucks. The only way to counter a sniper right now is to somehow get close to them (which is hard because there are so few lanes in this game and a permanent radar), counter snipe them, or use MIDA with very lucky strafing. Snipers need more zoom, more time between shots, more flinch, and far less mobility while scoped. I mean, lets face it. Even in PvE the solution to killing every boss ever (other than Ghorn spam) was to snipe the crap out of its crit spot. That's how powerful snipers are and how easy they are to use.
