Ok...before I start I'm going to say this: I am aware most of the story is not actually in game. For most people the Grimoire cards are in very poor taste. I had no problem reading them but many of you do and that is understandable .
That being said it is RIDICULOUS to say that Destiny has no story. Quite to the contrary, Destiny has an insane amount of content. It may be fragmented and up to interpretation at times, but overall the lore is very well crafted. It is the part of Destiny I criticize the least (still eyeing you Crucible). The tales of Old Guardians and their accomplishments, the history of each enemy faction excluding the Cabal currently, and even to a lesser extent the weapons.
And then I could end most arguments about lore with two words: TWIGHLIGHT GAP. That Battle alone changed so much. It saw Zavala elected to Vanguard because Shaxx refused and instituted the Crucible. Saladin was forced to step down from the Vanguard but honored through the Iron Banner. The rise of the Thunderlord and birth of the Gjallerhorn. Dredgen Yor slaying Valor. The Reef Wars, which in turn leads to the ENTIRE House of Wolves DLC. Osiris being exiled. I could go on a lot more.
My point is that you shouldn't just criticize a game for lack of story because you don't like to read. Is the story perfect? Heck no. Does it have holes? Yeah, sometimes big ones. I'm just trying to put out that the lore is one of the better parts of the game, if not THE best part....ok, that last bit was opinion, but oh well.
BTW, if there are any story holes or gaps you wish to address, feel free to let me know. I do enjoy discussing the Destiny universe.
Edit: Wow...already so close to the trending Category...Thanks guys. I enjoy hearing what you have to say, either agree or disagree..and yes, to a lesser extent the haters too.
Edit 2: Shadow Artiste and metdevil brought up excellent points about the difference between lore and story. However if you take the definition of each, both apply to the grimoire. This result in an awkward case where the grimoire is both lore and story
Edit 3: Trending now. Thanks everyone. I'm finishing up my classes for the night and will respond to you guys ASAP.

4 通の返信What sucks about all the lore is that we don't get to experience all the important and cool battles and other events that happened before the current time...

2 通の返信The lore for Destiny is amazing. The only problem with it is that you can't read it in game, and it has really no bearing on what happens in the game at all. I've been playing since the beta, and am still not sure whether Rasputin is a good guy or not.

1 返信I would actually enjoy reading a book (or series of books) that chronicles the history and lore. I find it very interesting but reading through the grimoire is just not linear.
-
1 返信I hear there were so many last minute changes to the vanilla Destiny that what little they decided to keep of the original story ended up as our...beloved...Grimoire Cards. Hopefully Destiny 2 comes with an in-game codex.

FlamingTacoFuryにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 4:01:15 AMThe maraid is quite exquisite in detail. You learn so much about the awoken and fallen. Such as how Petra's (probably a male) parent was killed by drevis. Which explains why she was raised by the coven. Then there is a bunch of awesome death machines.

OH ST8により編集済み: 2/17/2016 3:48:30 AMIt's not that I'm against reading, It's more like I bought a video game, not a book. If I wanted a story delivered through reading I would have done that, but instead I bought something that should give a story through the actual gameplay.

2 通の返信Obi-RonKenobiにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 2:35:16 AMBy this definition http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/story?s=t destiny has no story and is a novel that we play through in order to progress to the next chapter. The lore is the history http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/lore. So we are the story the grimoire is the history

4 通の返信As much out of game lore as there is, you'd think Bungie would've jumped all over a novel series by now. Twilight Gap, Reef Wars, good god The Books of Sorrow in the right hands...there's enough material to possibly have the best line of tie in novels ever, if you had the right writers.

1 返信I won't deny that destiny has a good storyline the problem is its not in the game and the grimoire system is horrendous imo if you want to keep people engrossed in whats happening. If its not in the game I just don't care about it.

9 通の返信The story of destiny is possibly the best story I've seen from a video game. The problem is, it doesn't tell the story.

1 返信Destiny has a beautiful story. The problem is that it's all lost in the Grimoire online and no ones bothers to read that. If Destiny could have that grimoire merge with the story and have a grimoire kiosk thatd be great.
